I am wanting to know what are some of the best hedge funds in Australia and what is better to work in the hedge fund industry or Investment Banking, Also, how much does the pay differentiate?

When you say 'best' do you mean the biggest or the top performing funds? The biggest funds are Macquarie, AMP, Perpetual and Colonial. If you're talking about top performing funds, you'll hear Platinum, Forager, BT and Schroder (among others) mentioned. Magellan is well-known too. IBD to HF seems to be the most well-trodden path. Some funds do care about 'pedigree'. They want to hire ex-bankers because they've undergone the training at sell side, which is (according to many) quite solid. Others, not so much. They're more interested in how you think, and whether you can conceptualise.

Depends on what your into. Read about both of these roles. compensation looks like salary + bonus. Bonus is linked to performance inn both of these roles. I would suggest the one you cant stop thinking or talking about. Those are the positions where you will have the passion and hopefully the discipline to pull in top level bonuses.
