Moelis LA vs Moelis NY vs Lazard NY

Hi,

First-time poster here. Just wanted to get some insight on the above decision I am making.

In regards to Moelis LA, some current information would be helpful. What is the lifestyle/culture like in comparison with the other firms mentioned (I know they all work hard)? How is dealflow at each? What about exit opps? Any information is helpful!

Thanks!

Moelis LA probably has slightly better exits than Lazard on a % basis. The class size is 8-9/class, vs I believe 30-40 at Lazard. But I don’t think the hours in LA are any better than NY - all 3 of these options are sweatshops.

From what I’ve heard, Moelis LA does very well in WC PE and also does well on the east coast. They’re very supportive of recruiting so might let you work out of NY for a week if you want to recruit there. Don’t see any reason to consider Moelis NY unless you’re really into restructuring (the NY office does more than LA, from talking to friends in NY).

I've got a friend working at Moelis LA and he is the hardest working person I know. He would pull all-nighters for fun and was an absolute beast. I've talked to him quite a bit lately and he said he's been torn to shreds for the past year. Ken sits in the LA office and doesn't leave until 10-11 pm every night, so everyone else gets out past 12 daily.
