GS S&T or Citi CMO?

I have an offer for Citi's 2019 CMO program, and received a Superday invite to S&T at Goldman. What are pros/cons of each, and which would you suggest I take? The Citi offer expires before the S&T Superday, and I'm not sure yet if I can move my Superday earlier. I know Goldman has a better brand name, but I'm not sure if in general it is worth that much more. I'm trying to move into IBD full time—would either give me a better chance?

If you were able to attend the GS superday w/out having your Citi offer expire, I would say to go for GS. The reason being that if you kill it in the summer, you can make the move to IBD if that's what you want to do. I've seen it done before, but you have to outperform in order to have a shot of moving.

That being said, Citi will give you a return offer for CMO and a superday for IBD at the end of the summer if you perform well. It is a tough transition because there are always a handful of people going into CMO with the intention of moving into banking, but it is definitely possible. At this stage in the game, I would try to move the GS interview up ASAP and if that doesn't work, take CMO with the intention moving after the summer.

BTW some Citi CMO groups have similar exit opps as banking groups, so Citi is a safe bet even if you don't end up moving to IBD.

Thank you for your answer! If you don't mind, do you know which CMO groups have similar exit opps as banking groups? Also, how common is it to move from CMO to IBD or from one BB to another from SA to FT recruiting?

It's not super common to see someone move banks from SA to FT, especially across divisions. It's still possible, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Citi has a structured internal mobility program where you apply for a superday in another division. You have to get chosen for the superday and then chosen from the candidates who interview. It's harder than it would first seem. If you have a strong network of alums at the firm it will make a transition much easier.

Any CMO group that does it's own modeling and fundamental analysis will have competitive exit opportunities.
