Top notch indeed.
Thoughts about what sort of exit opps a job like this leads to?
Anyone know what the group specifically does?
errr...this is the group that oversees operational improvements of Blackstone's portfolio companies. I'm sure there's a lot of experience on the team at the senior level, but the comment about great exit opps was probably sarcastic
sorry to derail, but I've got a better question. do any of you guys have any thoughts regarding the exit opps for a private equity investment analyst at Blackstone? I know they're like, a great MF and all that, but I'm really looking for some answers on the exit opps. I really have a passion for exiting stuff and I want to make exiting a cornerstone of my career.

Hey everyone,
I am a novice here and do not know much about PE so excuse me if this question is dumb.
What exactly does the portfolio operations team do in the Private Equity division? Is it a prestigious job? When everyone wants to transition from i-banking or consulting into PE, is this what it means or is this inferior to another form of PE? What about a PE portfolio operations analyst do for example? A bit of background on how PE works would be awesome if anyone has the time! Thanks in advance!

Find the Blackstone podcast, there are a couple episodes about the operations group. Basically they make portfolio businesses run better and will help in diligence.

There are a few posts about this group at Blackstone, but unfortunately they don't contain much (if any) insight. I'm curious if anyone could provide more background about the role and whether it is more back office (portfolio valuation, treasury, cash management, reporting, etc.) or tactical consulting (strategy implementation, lean, pricing initiatives, etc.). On the surface it appears like a great program (opportunity + mentoring + network + capability of peers) and that you get to move around between the portfolio companies executing projects. Any color regarding the role or group would be greatly appreciated.
Hi PCSC, no, I never sleep and so I can respond to any lonely threads (like this one) at all hours of the night. Impressive, I know ;-)

Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
I am interviewing for portfolio operations analyst. I am not on the finance side (no IB background / not my wheelhouse). I was reached out to interview for a new position in their PO division directly under a MD who has been tasked with rolling-out an enterprise-wide program that enables best practices for the portfolio companies. Can anyone gauge how prestigious this is? I really like this role, but my alternatives are in management consulting, which I feel will give me more fundamental skills. If my end goal is to go to Top 3 MBA programs in 3 years, should I do MC or pursue this role?
Very prestigious. They are tasked with driving value initiatives at the portfolio company level, so it is not the type of "operations" role you would find at a BB. The work is very similar to high level management and strategy consulting.
The team is about 40 people who generally come from top MBA and consulting firms. An analyst is expected to carry the grunt work of their assigned team for about 3 years and then go off and get an MBA. I would assume they place well into top 3 MBA programs.
