Did WSO become worse with the annonymous submissions?

Am I the only one to be both frustrated and don't see the point of annonymous submissions? Now there is threads where people just post in annonymous for no reason.
If you have to ask questions that may reveal who you are then just use a throw away account no?

I think that a good way to balance this would: Threads can be posted annonymously, answers cannot. Anyone agrees/disagrees?

The answer to the title is yes, especially in the off topic forum of all things.

The problem of course is people not using them for what they're supposed to be for - AMAs or responses that would otherwise out a person - and instead are just using them to talk shit, make random jokes or memes, etc.

Not sure how you police that though.

the best is when people post anonymous and then comment on their own post

I mean what’s the difference between me posting on an anonymous account and this? Only that you can see my post history on this account right? It’s kind of just like the “meme” accounts for lack of a better term

I've never understood the concept of trying to be anonymous among other professionals in an industry that requires strong networking to excel.

If you were a bit more open minded you’d see that sometimes we post/ comment stuff we don’t want tracked back to us for fear of retaliation/ consequences

Well a few points on this since we thought about it carefully and we're always open to changing if the community really doesn't like it:

  1. Even when someone posts anonymously, that does not mean the content can't be moderated and an account can still get banned. admins can see who posted anon

  2. Members can also get the rewards (silver bananas) for their anonymous posts to encourage quality

  3. This was an effort to encourage participation and not feel like you have to be careful about everything you post (even if it is tied back to an anonymous forum username)

Of course, I'm happy to hear opinions and it can be annoying when people hide behind it...but personally, I rather get some discussion on certain sensitive threads and live with a bit more immaturity and try to actively moderate it a bit more...but that's just me :-)

I like this method. Verified users can use the anonymous feature, others cannot. I think that would filter down some of the garbage.

I like your idea, but maybe the way verifying accounts should change, with all my respects I wouldnt like my boss to see that I am on this forum as he may get angry (they did explicitly tell us and made us to sign not to post and not to talk on social media about our bank)

There have been several posts from anonymous members that I've actually found useful. Would those individuals have never posted if there was not a low-barrier entry to post? I don't know. I think there's enough incentive / peer pressure for these individuals to convert to members if they see the value in WSO. For pure entertainment sake, I enjoy watching the lowest in the pecking order get into it with ANON posters.
