Daniel Wellington Opinions?

What are the opinions on Daniel Wellington watches? I'm a big fan of minimalist watches, yet am not too experienced in the watch game. So far have only Tissots, and am looking to widen the net a little bit. Got a SA stint coming up so figured I'll treat myself to an inexpensive watch.

So, DW opinions? Or any other similar brands to consider in the minimalist space?

Haha, thanks. After watching this maybe I will not purchase. Any suggestions?

Here are my honest opinions:
depending on price range-
under $500: you can never go wrong with a high quality Seiko or Citizen. I love the Citizen EcoMaster, the Seiko Sarb 033 or the Sarb 017.

$500-800: Everyone knows what an apple watch looks like, they know how much it costs, and you will look nice with it on. If you want a brand name buy a series 5, put a nice bracelet on it, and you will be fine. The other watches I mention will be much longer lasting though.

$1k-2k: This is when this get a little more serious. You can start to afford nice pre owned watches such as Omega seamasters or a beautiful Grand Seiko.

$5k-8k: This is where true master pieces become available. Rolex date just, new omega seamasters, panerai pam512, iwc blue face pilot watch, or even some lange & sohne.

10k+: at this price point you should be doing your own research, and you can get most of the beautiful brands flagship watches. Personal favorite is the rolex daytona, omega speed master moon watch, and lange &sohne datograph.

You can also start dipping into the most expensive brands in watch making such as Patek and AP.

Hope I helped! THESE ARE JUST MY OPINIONS NOT NECESSARILY THE CORRECT ANSWER

Congratulations on your SA role! Daniel Wellington are super aesthetic but someone pointed out to me how they are overpriced because of the cheap quartz standard movement and assembled in China and how you could get indistinguishable fakes on dhgate or aliexpress. Then I learned about the Orient Bambino Open heart and Maestro. They had the minimalist aesthetic I was looking for with the elegant intricacy and quality of automatic movement that watch snobs respect. I love the little window they have on the Orient Bambino open heart that displays the little mechanisms whirling away in the watch. The Maestro has a window on the watch back so you can peer in when you take off your watch. Both of these are the same price or cheaper than the Daniel Wellington too.

Yes, having just seen the video above maybe I have been strung along by the aesthetic. It is rather difficult trying to find what you are looking for in watches especially since I am only beginning and am far more interested in dress watches.

I really like the look of the Maestro, but I'm in the UK and not sure they ship there. May have to do a little more research. Thanks!

What's the obsession with watches when one enters finance? You don't have to wear a watch if you don't want to/care about them.

I've actually always had an interest in watches and would love to build up a collection. However I've never really had the money to spend on them - as such I never looked into something I couldn't afford, ignorance being bliss.

Spring for a nicer one when you get the full-time offer. Securing the internship is great but still gotta grind for the real goal.

My theory is finance kids want status symbols but the status symbols in most of the US (cars and homes) aren’t feasible in NYC. So they turn to other things like watches, Ferragamos, etc to show others that they’ve made it.

When I worked in Texas all the new college grads in finance bought entry level Audi’s and BMWs (or nicer pickups for a few guys who wanted to cling to their country boy image). Not a single mention of watches in 5 yrs there.

Unless you are trying to fck Essex broads in middle school by showcasing your "preppy" style you should steer clear from DW.

If you don't want to spend too much on a watch to go with your suit I would buy a vintage Omega Seamaster on a black leather strap.

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.

Certainly not my goal or style! Would like the Seamaster but figured it is a bit excessive just for SA.

Junghans Max Bill is the style I am thinking - was looking to see if I can find anything I like that is similar, but failing that I will just purchase it.

My fiancee needed a watch for work and had heard of Daniel Wellington through Instagram and other social media avenues. It looked decent enough in photos so we went ahead and purchased one.

Long story short, but we returned the watch within 2 days - the quality is absolutely horrible and the price point is ridiculous for that bad of a watch. I would steer clear and go for something else in that price range.

Do you go to a target? Have you thought about a school watch - it's the ultimate flex!!
