Boston University for IB or Consulting?

Hello, I'm currently an undergrad who's interested in IB and consulting. I recently got into Boston University as a transfer and while I like the school, I've heard it's basically a non-target (One of the better non-targets but a non-target nonetheless). I've also applied to some targets and semi-targets (6) but have only heard back from one of them so far (rejected). Obviously I would go to one of those if I got in, but I feel I should also inquire about a worst-case scenario where BU is the only school that I get into.

Will I have a decent shot at IBD or perhaps consulting there, assuming I get involved and keep a high GPA? Is there any decent recruiting that happens on campus?

I have a few friends at the school and from what they tell me there are a good amount of people getting into IB and Consulting. OCR is decent, but they also have resume drops through the investment club there at many highly regarded banks and the consulting club facilitated recruiting at both MBB and T2 consulting

my friends attend BU and only have handful of people in MBB( not BCG, only 1-2 in MB) but decent in Big 4 advisory. virtually none in T2 Consulting. Although they have a lot more in IB, atleast one in GS, Moelis, Citi and JPM, UBS every year

you need to either be a diversity or have a > 3.8 GPA. Seems like most people can get in without from the business school so that’s something to look into. it’s def not a target. You gonna need to bust your ass to get into either IB or consulting but IB is more likely to happen than consulting.

There is no OCR for IB at BU. Look at LinkedIn - every person who is doing IB this summer from BU is diversity. If you want a decent chance at going to Deloitte, then BU is the right place for you. Unless your parents are absolutely loaded, I don't think paying BU's price tag or dealing with the insanely high cost of living is worth it.

Intern in IB-M&A:

Know many people doing IB this summer and maybe 1 or 2 are diversity? In the past few years I’ve seen several people go to Moelis, GS, JPM, BAML, Citi etc. Very strong pipeline to PWP, HL HSBC as well as many boutiques.

OCR through the Finance and investment club with resume drops frequently.

If your friends at the school are not taking advantage of the resources available, that’s their own fault and not the fault of the school.

Define strong pipeline

Current BU student here. You're correct that there are grads at Moelis Boston, GS, JPM (not coverage IB), BAML, and Citi, but there is no "very strong pipeline" to PWP or HL, or really to anywhere for that matter.

At any of these places, you will need a strong (>3,7) GPA and good networking abilities. You'll have a decent (but by no means certain) chance of landing something if you satisfy those requirements
