I'd rather have an adorable fuck-up as an intern than a hardo

so you waiting for 15 mins and didn’t realize something was up 3 mins into the call that you’re the only one there?? and assumed for another 12 mins that everyone else was late?

I did dumber things when I was young, but one thing that triggers me when I’m on a call is when I hear the voice “Chad from XXX has joined the call” 15 mins in....

Funniest

dont worry about it man I went into the wrong meeting during my SA stint. I was told to go to room 15E so I went to room 15E...in the wrong building. I sat through a meeting and actually participated thinking it was some important meeting I had to take notes/show face in. Halfway through the meeting I realised I did not recognize anyone in the room and that no one from my team was present. The topic was about the most recent earnings of the bank so I just assumed they sent me to the meeting to hear about the performance of the firm as a whole. I failed to recognize that everyone in the room was at least 40 and I was the only young person there.

I just acted normally, participated, etc and it was fine. No one asked me anything about why I was there and after the meeting we all got up, shook hands, small talked, and left. I bumped into the leader of the meeting a few days after and we just smiled at each other and carried on. I was laughed at by my team when I told them why I didnt show up to the actual meeting I was supposed to be in but no harm done.

yeah it was a nerve wracking experience but I had no clue I was in the wrong place until halfway through the meeting. It just hit me like "dude what the fuck are they talking about". I am on an IB team and they are telling me about the deposit base and whatnot. I was freaking out inside my brain but kept cool even thoguh I was sweating super bad. I slowly realized I had no idea who these people were or why I was there but managed to look interested.

Funnily enough, these were all senior people talking about an increase in their banking app but a lack of usage in the younger demographic. They started talking about online/virtual banking and apps like Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, etc. They were total boomers not knowing really well what each one was so I kindly explained to them what Venmo was, etc. They went on talking about Venmo vs Zelle and commenting that they had to increase the app usage to keep up with the volume Venmo has.

I told them a big reason why people my age dont use Zelle is because Venmo/CashApp are more convenient since they are faster and the Zelle app has extra steps/is more bulky. One guy was like "Ok prove it" so he timed me how fast I could send my gf money over Zelle vs Venmo and of course Venmo was faster. They were like "ooh wow thanks for the input we should look into the user experience bla bla bla" and we kept on with the meeting.

tbh I completely forgot about that experience until I saw this post

Call fuck-ups are hilarious. I had a client loudly yawn on a project kick off call yesterday without realising he wasn't on mute. Right in the middle of our Senior Consultant running them through the project plan.

Rule of thumb for call: wait 5 minutes and if nothing happens, email or message one of the people on the original invite to ask if something is happening.

In my first corporate job after college, I also went to the wrong room on the first day. I went to jail. I thought I would be fired, but emailed my manager I had to take a personal day. It worked - no questions asked.

There were no important meetings and I actually showed up to my required room at 4pm that day when we were supposed to be there at 9am. It was about 15 peers on calls all day just taking notes. Everyone started laughing their ass off when I walked in as I was 'really late' - and I didn't say a word about being in jail. I never told anyone at that company that I ever went to jail and had the charges dropped so they never needed to know. Lawyer up always.

I think I said something like 'what happens in Vegas'.... we were in DC lol ... it worked though - just some jokes to dodge bullets and not lie and I was fine.

Once upon a time - I was taking a nice luke warm shower when I realized I had been in there for way too long and my Zoom conference was getting started. I jumped out of the shower and rushed to my computer to join the meeting. Little did I know, Zoom decided to default to video on and I was butt ass naked. I quickly smacked the camera out of the way and promptly left the meeting. Lucky for me, the prior meeting overextended and someone was screen sharing, so I don't think anyone noticed.
