Thoughts on Athanor HF
Athanor Capital was founded by a DE Shaw alum and seems to follow a global macro strategy. Offices in Atlanta and New York. It’s a pretty new fund, so it hasn’t gotten much noise but curious if anyone has had any interactions with them?
Thoughts? Intellectual firepower? Culture? Recruitment process? Comp?
I remember seeing the guy who founded the firm receive an award two years ago? Anyway, seems they are more like a multimanager than a pure macro fund. Are they actually hiring?
I'm pretty familiar with them and think them quite smart - founder with good track record, sharp investment team, great returns since small-scale launch a few years ago which has allowed them to grow AUM rapidly. My understanding is that the team functions as something in between a single manager run by the founder and individual teams who receive capital allocation / take risk. There is certainly a macro orientation, but they employ an equities group and bulk of the investment ream are all relatively technically proficient. And fwiw, pretty sure the Atlanta office is all BO/MO technology with the investment team all based in NY.
PM me if you want more color.
