Dating profile... job description?
Do you guys just tell girls you’re dating or want to date that you work for a hedge fund? Do you even bother disclosing the name of where you work? ... If so, why? If not, why not?

Mine just says investment analyst at finance. if they know the industry and are curious about which shop you work at then great, if they don't then they won't ask/care.
I wouldn't count on getting more clout/matches just from including the phrase hedge fund on your profile, if that's what you're wondering. It's plausible that it could even work against you if you're trying not to alienate the art major types lol
You will discover, through due diligence, that a girls panties are more likely to come off if you tell her you are a human rights lawyer working hard to deliver justice to the unheard. Dropping hints that you work in finance or at a HF screams desperate/boring to most young girls. In the modern world where women don't need providers you score no point for being another HF/PE bro.
"I give money [at punitive rates] to your favorite [probably non-essential] businesses to ensure they can stay in business [less those fired for cost savings] :), want to meet up at The Flying Cock?"
of course I do because I'm insecure
I write/say hedge fund and I think that it has a positive effect, though my impresson here could be due to selection bias (rich girls).
Two ways to look at it: 1: if the most interesting thing about you is that you work at a hedge fund that’s pretty sad and not a great signal to normal girls 2: the only girls (I’m assuming you’re a straight dude given it’s WSO) who will care will probably care for the wrong reasons
So leave it out
What is the most interesting thing about you? Do you have some super awesome and unique tattoos to make you interesting? Who is actually interesting?
people tend to have hobbies, m'dude
It's not whether you are interesting, I think everyone is interesting to themselves, it's whether there are commonalities and chemistry. Working at a hedge fund is not at all relatable, and I doubt many 20-30 yo girls are at all interested. Plus, if you are work obsessed, I'm sure work will come up at some point if there is any chemistry anyway.
As a female on dating apps, I prefer when a guy notes what they do for work -- don't need to name the specific firm, but even just a generic industry/position title helps, to me it shows that you probably have your shit together. I'm usually more hesitant to match with guys who are unemployed or are aspiring actors or something like that. But just my personal opinion as someone also in finance, if you're not interested in matching with girls in this industry my view probably doesn't matter much
dating profile same as my LinkedIn. “hedge fund analyst at $40bn+ New York Based Hedge Fund” aka Elliott Management Corporation. have you heard of it?
Why bother? Just say finance if you need to say anything at all.
Just wear a vest in your prof pic and she'll know...
Dude, flex those muscles. You didn’t go to the gym for nothing.
No, why would you want to disclose that you earn enough to support the children that she wants to put through private school, likely went to and did well at a top college (legacy), are professional, and have an intellectually interesting career.
Definitely don't put the firm name and try to down play it as much as possible. It is incredibly douche to put that and reeks of desperation.
Instead, you should cultivate an alternative personality, stop going to the gym and stop eating to get a slightly emaciated look, invest in a cam newton esque hat, take dj lessons, signal morality on social media, and get some tattoos to make yourself unique. This is what all girls on data apps actually want because it is much more interesting and attractive. Oh, and learn something about art because you know when a hedge fund guy is into art, they are doing it for one reason!
I think the dj lessons are important. I'd suggest a photo of yourself with headphones only on one ear standing in front of turn tables.
Side comment from a female - nothing's funnier than a guy who works in a "prestigious" finance job (for young early-mid 20s year old or whatever - MBB, IB, etc) explaining his job and what he does to me, assuming that I didn't go to a "target school" and don't know what consulting/ib/pe is... :)
Watch yourself, bois. You're telling me you get to travel weekly to advise a huge multi billion dollar company on some major strategic decision, and I know you don't do much besides align PowerPoint logos.
--> YOUR JOB IS NOT YOUR PERSONALITY. (Unfortunately, I have seen online dating profiles referencing banker bags and it's just cringe.)
Yes IBD
Just put hat you work in finance. If working in finance is actually an attractive feature to them/interesting, then they will ask.
Also be careful, if you’re actually trying to see someone seriously it might not be a good idea to say you have money etc.
A lot of my friends do this and are then surprised when they only see girls who want them to buy them things and are clearly not there for them as an individual.
when you look at a girls online dating profile, do you care what she lists for work? (you probably are turned off by "unemployed and not looking")
Would you prefer a girl who says she "works in finance" over a girl who says she is an elementary school teacher, or waitress, or lawyer, or CEO? For most people, you don't really care what a romantic partner does for work....but you want her to have some job where she has both a thing to do with her life that contributes something to society,, and a stable source of income.
Lots of jobs have stereotypes....and we humans enjoy the comfort of being able to put people into categories. When you take the job "commodity trader" you probably have a stereotype in mind...same as "police officer" or "firefighter".
if you don't want to be stereotyped by your finance job because its sounds boring, then you can use something fun you do as a hobby (if you like to cook, then say "chef" if you like to garden, then say "landscaping architect"...if you like to read, then say "non-fiction editor").
you should get the idea...use the job sectio to convey your personality. If your personality really is "financial analyst" then go ahead...but most people don't do financial analysis in their free time just for fun (unless you are warren buffet)
This is a deep philosophical question. Is being interested in markets (industry trends, economics, politics) boring? Clearly the answer seems to be yes, it is embarrassing in the context of dating, but why?
as a test, i changed my job to things like "Netflix Reality TV Producer" or "Tech Startup Engineer" and got a lot more matches on the various dating app. On average, girls seem to be more attracted to careers that have an obvious creative component (of course, there is a wide spectrum and some girls prefer a stoner gamer..and other girls prefer cops or teachers or a doctor).
My advice would be to list a job that aligns with your personality...and if you ever meet in person, you can describe it partially as a joke, and partially because you don't relate to your job as a part of your personality (this has never been an issue for me)
I just put "analyst" on my profile because I figure a lot of the artsy people would immediately swipe left if they knew what I did. With just analyst I still get good amount of matches but have noticed that everytime someone asks me what exactly I do, if I end up telling them I work at a HF, 70-80%% of the time I stop getting replies. Might be different since most of the people I talk to are in the 19-21 category (recent grad, 21) so college students, etc.
Next time someone asks me I'm definitely not going with what I actually do and probably going to make up something as ironchef said
Re-set age bracket to 30-40, take off Analyst and put Partner and see the numbers creep up. You’re welcome.
Not at milf stage yet
You could just put business associate, not a total lie but vague enough so you aren't automatically dinged.
I also tried not putting anything for a while and that went well, I think I got more matches
Ultimately though the girl will find out what you do and may loose interest bc of it. Like it or not, your job is a large component of your life that will influence dating certain women. It sucks but hey we all got into finance for the money not the bitches. If the converse were true we would probably be working in peace corps fucking all the dirty air force 1s wearing art hoes
username checks out
along these lines...what are your thoughts on posting a different age on the dating apps? (for example...if you are 42...posting 30 as your age....because if you want to date a 26-28 yr old girl...most of them set their filters to something below 40)
