Many offers: MS vs lazard vs rothschild vs CS!!!!!
I have several offers for a IB position / summer intership:
-
Morgan Stanley in Madrid
-
Lazard in NY
-
Rothschild in London
-
Credit Suisse in NY
I'm looking for prestige!
What do you think? Whats your ranking?
Depends where you want to work full time. From what I understand, Rothschild is very prestigious in London. Otherwise if you want to work in NYC full time, then I would rank them as follows: 1. Lazard NYC 2. Credit Suisse NYC 3. Rothschild 4. MS in Madrid
How did you ended with this wide swath of offers? Why would any one work in a backwater office such as MS in Madrid? Where is the Rothschild offer for?
If you gave us more colour, we would be more helpful...
Just curious, what's the typical offer acceptance time ? From what I know it's 10-20 days. Must be tough to get all these offers all in line for the respective deadlines. Congrats man!
I would personally go for CS NYC. Solid brand name and good international exposure. Laz NYC is also solid. It's a matter of preference.
I would die for Lazard
The answer is LAZ NYC. Significantly better than CS in NYC (or pretty much anywhere, for that matter), ESPECIALLY if you're looking for prestige.
Rothschild is rightly seen as very prestigious/reputable in London, but it still largely does MM deals, so it should come second.
CS NYC is still a NY BB, so it comes third in your prestige listing, not very far behind Rothschild.
MS Madrid is in a backwater economy that is being royally raped by EU integration. They should come last in your rankings.
Rothschild NYC does more MM deals, but Rothschild London is just like Lazard NYC, plenty of transactions over 1B, even if measured in EUR term.
I'd go with Lazard or Rothschild. Lazard in NYC is great, but so is Rothschild in Europe. If it were Lazard NYC vs. Rothschild NYC, I'd probably go with Lazard. In London, it's more of a toss up. I'd give the slight edge to Lazard, though.
Looking for prestige? Haha. Oh man I love how naive people are. You should look at the group and culture of the bank you'll be working for. As far as exit opps, they are simiar between CS, Lazard, Rothschild.
what are the job scopes/roles, these will help if you can tell us more..
if you are talking about exit opps, its the job function that matters more than the name of the bank..
I'm curious how you got offers for NYC, London, and Madrid. Did you apply to Rothschild NYC and London? Did you apply to MS NYC and Madrid? Seems like strange geographical preferences. Where did you interview for which offices?
Agree with Banker88, also wanna know how did you apply to Morgan Stanley and why Madrid?
What kind of culture are you looking for? Isn't there quite a difference between the CS culture and Lazard culture. I know this may vary with group but in general.
Im from Barcelona. I really want to work in IB so I decided to diversify my applications. It is easier for me to get a job in Madrid. So I applied there, just in case my abroad applications didnt work. For instance, tomorrow I have a phone interview for GS Madrid. My applications: - Madrid: GS and MS - London: Rothschild and UBS - NY: CS, Lazard and JPMorgan Right now I'm studying in Wharton as an exchange student. So, I did many interviews by phone or video conferencing. In other cases I had to go NY. I dont really care about the culture of a corporation, their only objective is to make profits... My objective is to grow in experience, networking and prestige... So, thats what Im looking for.
Just being curious, why didn't you applied to the aforementioned CS, Lazard and Rothschild in Madrid or London? Coming from Spain, how is IB there? Who are the players in Madrid? I'm German and always had a penchant to go working there.. And a lateral question, as a European did you had any problems applying to NYC (CS, Lazard and JPMorgan)? I understand that getting sponsorship for a visa must be much easier from a BB like JP Morgan than Lazard right?
You guys are getting trolled. I understand NY/London, but Madrid is completely out of place
Please explain "getting trolled."
^^^ agreed. I smell troll
Nobody would go to Spain. Maybe there are a few players like BBVA and Santander but these are all banks and there are nearly no PE firms either...and I am not even talking about the deal flow... In my opinion only London is valid in Europe. To answer the question I would go to Lazard NYC
Take MS in Madrid - leave the country and don't come back. Thanks.
You do realize that you can make a great IB career in Continental Europe (Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan) right?

My suggestion is that you go work for Deloitte in Beijing....the less tools around here the better
lol
Thanks for the bump.
