"Blind" Recruiting
Let's pretend all recruiting was done blindfolded, metaphorically speaking. You didn't know someone's name, face, sexual orientation, or gender... it's purely based on the resume, social skills, and behavioral/technical questions alone.
What ethnic percentages would a full time analyst class come out to (e.g. 50% white, 25% Asian, etc). I basically want to know how big of an advantage it is not being white
Probably 40-60% white 30-50% asian 0-10% Hispanic/black

This was surprisingly super racist.
Asshole
Pretty accurate - gender mix would probably be around 30-35 female / 65-70 male.
Look at the 80s Wall Street. More like 10/90 if not less
Interesting. And what are actual recruiting numbers? Assuming there's a big difference, does it "all in" hurt or help society?
Lol major B8
Depends on the city. In a diverse one like NYC, I think that might be a challenging statistic to calculate. There are so many smart people from different backgrounds that depending on the sample size, you might get a higher % in one particular group vs others.
Oh this is an argument for merit? Social skills and behaviorals are not merit. And the job uses the most basic technical skills.
Are you joking? Social skills and behavioral skills are integral to being a good analyst and beyond. I've long said that the technicals are just a baseline requirement but what set people apart is how they interact with others and whether they are fucking weirdos or good people who we can stand working 15 hours at a time with in the same bullpen.''
Also good luck getting PE jobs without the aforementioned. No one on the buyside wants to recruit an anti-social weird loser just because he/she was a decent analyst. Again, the technicals are a baseline requirement
Social and behavioral skills are almost everything in business. You can get a monkey to do technicals (or they'll replace all of it with AI before too long). You'll always need the human / people skills skill set to move deals along, lead people, generate revenue, etc. The rest of it is just noise. You'd be amazed by the number of deals that are done because of relationships solidified at bars, country clubs, outings, etc. in every industry (including government). You'll learn that in person at some point.
