Freshman Internship - Where and When to Apply

Hi everyone, hoping to get some veteran advice. I know many of you will say that freshmen internships really don't matter for recruiting (as it's difficult to get name brand internships), but I'm from a Canadian semi-target and REALLY want to stand out by sophomore year.

I know it's really hard breaking in to the States from Canada, so I want to maximize my chances.

With that in mind, does anyone know any solid firms that hire freshmen for internships? Which fields should I be reaching out to? LMM IB boutiques, PWM, or anything else? Does it matter if the internship is paid or not?

TL;DR: Does it matter if freshman internship is paid? Which firms hire freshmen and which finance-related field should I target?

Thanks monkeys <3

There’s gonna be no applications explicitly hiring freshmen. Once you’re done with your first semester and have actually a gpa and stuff to put on your resume start cold emailing/networking with search funds, startups, and other small banks, venture and PE funds in your area

I'm Ivey/Queen's, aren't those the Canadian semi-targets for US recruiting?
