John 3:16

I've struggled with finding meaning inside of professional world when it comes to banking and long hours and what feels like no fulfillment. I have been there where it feels like nothing good can ever come and something is just missing. Investment banking can at times feel empty, but when you truly find Jesus and allow him to take over, you will find so much more to life. I enjoy going to the office everyday knowing that I can do his work using my hands.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

God will lead the way in everything you do inside of professional world. He will show you abundance and lead you inside of the correct path. When you are able to give that final trust to Jesus, you will find that you have an immense amount of happiness and power.

For those making absurd amounts of money. God does not punish you for being fruitful and earning large sums of money. It is what you do with your money to help many individuals around you.

Romans 6:23

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Jesus loves each and every one of you and even if you don't think you are worthy, he has died for your sins. He will take care of you and show you the way even if you have felt lost.

One of the most relatable comments I’ve ever read. Not so much in the jumping out the window front, but uncovering a new hotkey makes an 8ball look like a line of FunDip in the kindergarten bathroom.

"In order to be a really good investor, you need to be a little bit of a philosopher as well." -Dan Loeb

I’ve always wondered this. What’s the point of making a bunch of money if one doesn’t find fulfillment in one’s life? Money is good, but it only covers the base, animalistic component of our needs. We earn money to pay for food, water, electricity, shelter, healthcare, and everything else that keeps us and our family safe. But what then?

A philosophical underpinning of Christian thought, if I’m not mistake, is that man is both animal and soul. The “animal” component is instinctive, passionate, and sinful when not kept under control. This is the side that tempts people to bang hookers, abuse drugs, lie, cheat, and steal. Non-human animals, in virtue of their name, are 100% animalistic and 0% soul. An animal will kill, eat, sleep, hunt, run, not through conscious thought, but through instinct. The rational soul is what separates humans from the other animals. For this reason, humans can be held to a higher moral standard and need more than just money, food, water, and shelter to live a fulfilling life. Think of it this way: when a lion kills an entire pack of cubs of a competing pride, no one calls the lion “immoral.” This is because a lion, like every other animal, acts solely on instinct and does not have a rational mind which  discerns between the right and wrong. If a human, however, kills a man and steals his money to buy food, we do call that man immoral and hold him accountable because we know that a human has a rational mind (a soul), and therefore a conscience, an ability to discern between right and wrong. A healthy human being has the free will to think, “I really want to do this, but I absolutely can’t. It is immoral.” This is why living a fulfilling human life requires not only money and survival, but also virtuous beliefs and good deeds. Like OP wrote, the “animal” life of a human is finite, but the rational soul is eternal, so nurturing a healthy soul is of utmost importance in life. Even if you aren’t a religious person, you can think of this “soul” as your inner health and fulfillment, and so this line of thought still applies: you, as a human being, should not overindulge in your animalistic desires for money, power, and pleasure, but instead should fulfill your inner soul’s purpose for a meaningful and virtuous life. Straying too far from this brings you closer to the chaotic world of the beasts and farther from the civilized world of the rational man.

Absolutely. We're in an industry where it is quite easy and maybe even natural to be consumed with temporal views, but never forget what is the most important. I've been in the industry a good handful of years but have been an imperfect, faith-striving Christian for much, much longer. And always will be. And I believe OP when he said "God will lead the way in everything you do inside of a professional world." I've had multiple experiences where God has led me in a professional capacity.

Respect goes to all who follow and sacrifice for their faith, whatever it may be, in these times of increasing faithlessness. It isn't always easy to test waters you can't see or to go against the grain.

As most of us in the industry seek abundance, let us remember that abundance is much much more than money.

Controversial

You are joking....How do you find morality based on the three gods of Christianity? The omnipotent father God had to kill the son because he loved the world so much. Only by murdering could he save mankind and he died for your sins even before you committed them? Makes no sense. Lucky you to get salvation because you were born in Christian USA while the newly born infants who just popped into the world in India, Saudi are forever doomed. Cringely egotistical. Jesus did not talk abt finding meaning working in finance or whatever stressful job. Believers are adept are twisting the words of the failed prophet (JC) to find comfort. Jesus said "sell your belongings and give to the poor". This is what service to him means. When will Christians quit making up stuff. Read your Bible and start by learning about the morality of Jesus' dad who he totally endorsed saying 'none is good but the father.' Christianity is the most illogical belief of the "big three."

You're right that Christians can twist the teachings of the Bible and pervert it, but that can be said about nearly any and every ideology that has ever existed. This is how I, a random Christian on this forum, thinks about your criticisms:

It wasn't "murder", it was capital punishment. The Christian god is all-loving but also fair, and he told Mankind that should they disobey God, the punishment would be death. Mankind disobeyed God and deserved death and damnation, but because God is all-loving, he decides to sacrifice "himself" in the form of a human being (JC) to serve the punishment on our behalf. The Christian Trinity idea is that Jesus was God in the Flesh, so God is humbling himself and sending himself to earth to willingly serve our capital punishment and to also demonstrate/teach the "Godly way" to live. Service to God and Jesus therefore, is now to just appreciate and respect their sacrifice and born of that appreciation and respect is the desire to be a better person and emulate Jesus as best you can.

Implicit in all of this is the mutual understanding that no human will ever match up to Jesus or can truly understand God, so we will all fall short in our lives and no individual is better than the other. What matters is that we forgive ourselves and we recognize that we are not perfect, and that it is incumbent upon us to to be nice to one another as much as possible and strive to improve ourselves to look a little more like Jesus' image each day.

Those are idle hopes that are inaccessible to the unlucky people born in non-Christian nations. What sin was it exactly? A woman was deceived by a talking snake? Why did almighty God create the snake? If you read Genesis closely you will see that salvation by JC was not part of the deal for sinning. Yahweh made three pronouncements and the fear of hell that keeps you awake and eggs you on to be a good person was not one of them. Just be a good person because of humanity not because expect some rewards in the afterlife. To be fair, don't you think that it is unjust that you have a good life in the west(maybe), good job, while some kids are forever doomed not only on this world where they live in misery coz of hunger, third world etc and they ended up in the wrong religion? To be born in the West and be Christian is to be doubly "blessed", don't you think? It's mere luck. One can help the not so blessed in various ways and one of the ways is to have empathy. I see no empathy in Christianity. I see pride. This is the way I see it.

Matthew 25:14-30

Literally defines the process of making money and not wasting it. The reason he died for sins is an answer that Gods can comprehend, clearly humans can't fathom even that. Peter even said we will stop the killing, but there was a greater reason so everyone had the ability for their souls to be saved. Jesus constantly uses parables to connect the Bible due to the knowledge that one day this message might have a different application. If you want to deny or discredit his powerful healings and teachings, go look at the Quran where literally, Jesus is found inside of it. Jesus told his disciples to give everything and follow him, he knows that many will go bear fruits, but that isn't bad. Going and doing what you have with that money can help so many different people.

Jesus also died for those born into worlds where it is not beneficial to those and allowed them to achieve eternal life other than this materialistic world.

In my opinion, the case for Christianity is not based in historical evidence or the logic of its theology. Rather it is based in the practical improvement it can make to person's life: meaning, community, a moral compass, etc. Anecdotally, I've found Christ followers to be better people in terms of having their shit together and being nice people.

Putting aside the specifics of the theology, based solely on the outcomes its a pretty strong case.

I'd recommend The Case for Christ, written by a former atheist and Chicago Tribune writer, who set out to prove his wife wrong by poking holes in the historical evidence and general reasonableness of Christian beliefs. Of course it can't and won't be definitively proven, but there's more evidence and logic than one might expect.

Having said that, I think it's an unusual and rare way to come to belief / faith, and what you highlighted is a stronger case for most.

My understanding when someone calls themselves Christians is that they are "Christ-like". It is not philosophy. It is religion. You follow all what the new testament says including hating Jews, killing Jews,  women are not allowed to speak....etc. is it not what the bible teaches? Why don't today's Christians follow these tenets? Because they are outdated and stale teachings of 1st century but they can cherry pick what they like; find hope in the afterlife and can still find salvation even when they divorce ( bible says no divorce), endorse capitalism while Jesus said give to the poor. You can literally make that "holy book" says whatever you want it to say.

If you are not following the teachings of Jesus, just quit pretending you are and stop hijacking his name. (Christ-ian) The teachings of Jesus are radical. I don't pretend to follow them. I just admire them from afar. Can't call myself a Christian.

I appreciate seeing some spirituality among fellow financiers. Good for you OP. . I’m more into philosophy myself and Stoicism is what gives me the strength and purpose in this industry. Highly recommend it.

Big fax. I've seen a couple of different implicit expressions of folks searching for spirituality or "something" recently. I consider posts about anxiety and managing stress an implicit byproduct of existential worry and lack of spiritual grounding. I think WFH has given a lot of us a real opportunity to pause the rat race and reflect, which is pretty cool. Happy to see people engaging this.

But then you run the moral hazard due to no absolute truths

I respect every religion, and am catholic myself, but this is the most non-target shit I've ever seen in my life. Really? This job is to work, not to find meaning in. Nothing we do is special or worth praising. You want to make a difference? Quit, but don't try to justify our existence with some bullshit quotes.

And behold, a man came up to jesus, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the 10 commandments.” The young man said to him, All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

How can you say 'I have performed the law and the prophets'? seeing that it is written in the law 'Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself,' and look, many of your brothers, sons of Abraham, are clad with dung, dying for hunger, and your house is full of much goods, and there goes out therefrom nought at all unto them." And he turned and said to Simon his disciple, sitting by him, "Simon, son of John, it is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of a needle than a rich man into the kingdom of the heavens".

No offence - but have you guys actually read the bible, or do you just quote the bits that make you feel good about yourself?

Yes it says that but I can feel Jesus inside of me and he is telling me there is nothing wrong with making money and being a Christian too. My faith is more important than words in a book.
