Summer Analyst Interview Dress Code for an International Student
Hey guys,
I am an international student studying finance at a target university. I will be applying for SA positions soon and really wished to get some inputs on the dress code. I see a lot of information for what to wear during your SA / Analyst gig, but my concern is more over whats best for your SA interview.
I planned on wearing decent looking navy blue / charcoal suits, slacks, white shirt, silk tie and some decent looking black shoes and belt. All these I have bought from my home country and they look good, just that they are not Brooks Brothers / Saks / Bloomingdales (we do not have those stores in my country).
Is it ok to not wear branded attire to an SA interview ? Or should I really get myself some branded suits, slacks etc. ? And if I should, can you guys advice on any department stores / brands (I am based in Boston - so you now know its either Harvard or MIT :P) ? I am a bit on the plus size so would need my suit to be measured and then tailored, so kindly let me know as per that. Appreciate any help on this, thank you !
If it fits well and looks good, unless you're wearing that shit inside out, I bet they will hardly notice.

A ton has been said on WSO about what to wear to an interview, ie. grey/navy suit with light blue/white shirt and conservative blue/red tie, etc.
But, as a rising Junior hoping to land an IBD SA gig in 2011, how much should be spent on the suit, shirt&tie, and shoes? What would be appropriate for interviewing, while not breaking the bank nor needing to be replaced within a couple years because it barely cut it for a SA?
Also, where would you recommend getting it (preferably in Toronto)?
Thanks in advance.
I bought a $650 Calvin Klein navy suit for $350 during a sale, I would recommend looking for quality stores with clearance sales as you're likely to find some real gems. In my opinion, this suit will suffice for summers and full time because it's a quality suit. I'd probably go to Aldo for shoes, you get a nice pair for around a $100. Check out Nordstorms online shop for ties, they have some really great collections at reasonable prices.
.
I have landed a BB job wearing a $100 suit TAILORED (altered) to my specs and got rejected wearing a $2000 suit. So it is not the value of the suiting but how YOU look in it. Remember: "It's not the suit, but the man who wears it"
what do you guys think about a gray pinstripe suit?
A $100 suit with a $30 tailoring job looks better than a $500 suit without. Just sayin
depends on what your budget it. you really aren't expected to have a $2000 suit... but it also isn't an excuse to look sloppy... make sure your ish is clean and ironed.
