JPM Intern E-mail Blast

Looks like a JPM Summer Intern may be cutting his time at the firm a bit short after a pretty hilarious e-mail he sent out to his colleagues.

I really love the quick redaction he makes on the second and third e-mails out to everyone. Lets hope this kid doesn't try to go out in NYC anymore, bouncers beware.

Subject: REMINDER… TONIGHT ReUnion Bar!
Importance: High
What’s up guys,
So tonight is going to be wild… ReUnion Bar on 17th and Park Ave @ 10pm. A link to view pics of the lounge is below in the original email so check it out the place is really classy. We already have 100+ JPMC interns who accepted the invite, so tonight will be a great opportunity to check out everyone and have an awesome time. Keep spreading the word, keep telling everyone and anyone who is not on this list and who doesn’t work for JPMC. You don’t want to miss out on this, trust me.
If there are 100+ interns from around the area who come and talk to me, this will be a huge every week party at different lounges of choice all free of cover. The bigger the crowd, the more discounted drinks, the more fun for all of us. Also, there will be events Fridays and Saturdays if tonight goes well and you all show interest in it.
ReUnion is not strict on IDs so if you have a fake you will be fine. If you don’t have an ID… get one! Sorry about that, I will push for black ‘X’s’ next time so those without IDs can come hangout, since I want you all to have a great time this summer.

TONIGHT:
ReUnion Bar on 17th and Park Ave
Free cover
100+ new friends
Don’t miss out! Tell everyone, it’s going to get wild.
AT THE DOOR SAY YOU ARE WITH “InternParties”… see you all tonight at the Pizza Party, and then at ReUnion!

Subject: RE: ROOFTOP CHANGED to ReUnion Bar!
To all,
My apologies for spam, but I have realized this is not the place to use company time to talk about after work events. Although I would like all of you to enjoy your summers, I will be reaching you from my other email, after work hours from now on. In no means did I intend to go against code of conduct, and that was my own fault which will not happen again. I know some of you interns are not 21, so remember to think and be smart and it is 21+ to drink…underage activity is illegal. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your afternoons. See you at the pizza party.

Subject: Tonight 21+ @ ReUnion
Everyone,
Disregard anything you heard, Tonight is 21+ only… that is, 21+. ReUnion is a classy venue and it will be a great time for us all to hangout. InternParties is hosting this great event. ReUnion is not a pushover bar, I am sorry for the rumors that spread, it is 21+ see you all there, enjoy.
Redacted,
(Not affiliated with InternParties, just trying to get everyone out and having fun)

wow. realistically speaking, how much impact does this have on him? tossed from the internship program and perhaps blacklisted at BBs/boutiques for FT recruiting, but after that?

On Dealbreaker they made a pretty big deal not to leak this kid's name, but theres a good chance it will get out eventually. In that case, it could have some serious long term consequences for him, its probably a dingable offense.

Wait what's the big deal? When I interned, there were many intern events...organized by interns. The only thing different is that this email mentions fake IDs and such, but otherwise not a rarity in company email.

Do what you want not what you can!

The big deal is that he didn't just limit the email to people he knew or even other interns. There is no reason for anyone working fulltime to be subject to spam from an intern that started a week ago.

This kid will never get hired FT, and nobody will ever tell him it was because of this.

It shows poor fucking judgment, and I don't need somebody like that working on my team.

Best Response

If 80% of JPM interns get offers (and they do), this kid is squarely in the 81st percentile. This shit makes the firm look bad and its interns look bad. If there's one thing Jamie cares about, it's the reputation of his company. Because in the end, the only thing that differentiates banks is their reputation. I wouldn't be surprised if this kid's summer gets cut short.

Also I don't think this went out to all JPM interns, I've asked a couple about this and they saw it on Dealbreaker like the rest of us. I think the author is back office, only way he'd be able to rage tonight. (Say what you will, you know as well as I do that bankers don't go clubbing during the week and for the most part not even on weekends).

Know someone at JPM that said the kid was an IB intern. Hard to get the offer in IB if you are going to evening pizza parties...

No, the kid is Tech. Technically "IB Tech" (so he has @jpmorgan not @jpmorganchase for his e-mail) but all that means is he does tech support for the investment bank as opposed to the commercial/retail bank. The e-mail also only went out originally to the back office--HR, Compliance, Ops, and Tech that I know of.

i dont see anything wrong except for the fake id thing. If anything he is good at organizing networking opportunities, a definite plus.

Im pretty sure there are a lot worse things sent through company communications. If they read even half of the internal IM intern stuff during my internship, the offer rate probably would have been around 5%.
