Private Equity firms with ops groups
Does anyone know how to find a comprehensive list of private equity firms that have an operations group? Or does anyone know of any besides Bain Cap, TPG, and Blackstone?

Career Resources
A lot of funds list "operating partners" who I I believe range from executives-in-residence to part-time advisers available for roles in portfolio companies. Baird Capital Partners has operating partners listed on their website, for example, and I'm sure there are a lot of others.
Off the top of my head, you're missing KKR Capstone which is one of the most structured portfolio operating programs. If I recall correctly, BainCap's portfolio group is relatively new and they haven't fully established a normal career progression.
If you find a comprehensive list, I'd be curious to see it.
American Securities has one in the MM space
American Industrial Partners, Sun Capital
Gores Group, Platinum Equity
I hear there's a lot of talent-sharing and cross-pollination between those two firms.
Nobody?
Hony Capital have a big ops group.
Private Equity Operations (Originally Posted: 05/23/2012)
Hey All,
I have about a year of experience working in Operations Strategy for a major (F200) company. I like what I do but I would really like to be at a smaller firm. I've worked on some pretty huge projects (~$250M) and done well.
I was wondering what the best way of moving to PE in an Operations role would be. I really have no desire, or chance, to be on a 'deal' team but I like the idea of working on companies post buy out to improve their cost structure and generate revenue for the firm.
Any thoughts would be welcome.
Thanks.
Interested as well.

From my experience, people in ops team are either from MBB (or other relevant consulting firms) or former C-Suite execs.
Some PE firms have related consulting groups (Vista, Insight, KKR Capstone) that specifically work for their portfolio companies to improve operations (and due diligence ahead of investing). Might be interesting to you.
Fairly easy to get an Ops job that you're qualified for in a PE owned firm. You can work your way up to an ops guy that takes assignments for portfolio firms and has interesting work but moves around a lot. Ideally you'll want to be an operating partner but you're probably better accessing that through consulting. PE finance guys are real snooty so it will be hard to ever get enough respect to be considered on the team, unless you've got decades of hard fought C level experience and grey hair. As mentioned above.

Loads of LMM PE funds are full of ex-operators and consultants btw. Clearlight out of LA for example.
