Re-Applying after Rejection
Have some feedback on this but would appreciate others feedback as well.
I successfully made final rounds with a top 3 consulting firm twice - both for internship and full-time (as an MBA) and each were for a different domestic office. Post MBA I will be heading to a top firm in its industry (not consulting) with a great brand name. I attend a top 15 MBA program.
Question is simple, what are my chances of getting interviewed again if I re-apply in a year or to? And what if I apply to an international office of which I am fluent in the local language?
Consider my credentials strong (I also made final rounds with another top 3 consulting firm that took a long time to reject me). The feedback I received after my first rejection was to develop better business acumen but they really liked me. I did not receive feedback after full time rejection offer because I was a bit upset and got off phone without asking any questions form the partner though she said they really liked me. I think my rejection was due to a poor performance on a single case.
Appreciate any viewpoints on this!

In all seriousness, it depends on the reason for rejection. If it was just b/c you did bad on one case, like you indicate, sure you have a shot.
Mix it up a little bit so they get the impression - Wow this guy has really matured and grown since the last time we saw him. Let s give him a shot, he must really want this.

I made it to the last round for a position that I was then told had gone to another candidate. The job has since reappeared on Doostang in the last week. Should I reapply? Would the firm contact me if I was their second choice and their first choice fell through? Or would they assume I had moved on (I would still gladly take the job)? Dinged about 2-3 weeks ago, job reappeared one week ago. Feedback for the ding was "nothing negative about your candidacy, just went with someone else".
If you were on a waitlist, they would have contacted you, they have your information. I think the posting on Doostang could be an error. Lots of times you'll continue to see postings even after it's been filled. This is because website has a specific time it will refresh the servers. I am sorry to hear you didn't get it, but I would move on.
Sadly that could have also been their nice way of saying no, even though it was a straight no.

You have nothing to lose , dont listen to them , apply again. Persistence shows you care, they may reconsider you. I made it to a superday at a bb for s&t (think gs,ms,jpm) and didnt get the offer. I pushed when i saw another FO division posting online at the same firm that rejected me and went through the same campus recruiter. I ended up getting the offer. Granted it was not for the same position, but if I would have been a bitch about it and didn't apply again, I wouldn't have got jack shit. Do it! The worst that could happen is getting a no, you then tell them smd and move on.
Doostang is shit, i've seen filled postings re-appear on the site all the time.
It can't hurt to reach out and try, but honestly it's probably an error. I've had a similar thing happen (didn't interview, just was told from an inside contact that the position was filled and then it appeared on job posting websites after that) but he said it was the same posting and didn't know why it had just gone up.
Lots of times positions are reposted because the company paid for 'X' amount of time anyway on said site so they just leave them up. Doostang always does this, doubt it is even still open.

as far as i know there's no specific timeframe, but you should have done something to actually improve your cv (e.g. get significant work experience, finish a second degree, etc). otherwise they will just reject you again

Of course they expect improvement and it probably gets harder to get in, but is there anything els to know?

I read something else about this being a challenge because of your network. Example being if someone from your network goes to bat for you and you don't make it through and get the offer then their reputations are tarnished in a way. So consider your connections. Just a thought.

I applied to a few banks last year and was unsuccessful, probably because I applied way too late.
I've now come round to applying again and I've noticed on many application forms, they ask if you have applied previously. Would they view my application negatively if I answer 'yes' to that question?
I'm using a new email address to make these new applications (my uni email from last year expired), so I assume they wouldn't be able to check anyway.
there's no black list. Unless you interviewed and jaw dropingly bombed it no body would care if you applied before, if anything its a chance to show what youve been doing and improving.

About 3 months ago, I interviewed for a role on the compliance side at a well-known hedge fund. I didn't get the job because they thought I came across as being more interested in an investment facing role. There was just some misunderstanding and I probably didn't do a good enough job initially in terms of making sure I really understood the role and what that particular team does.
I'm still very interested in the position and working at this firm and I'm wondering if anyone had some advice on how to reach out to them again. Should I email the alum that referred me or the recruiter I was in touch with? What should I say? Is it too soon to reconnect?

Is it worth reapplying to a prop firm after a year or so from the last time you applied? In my specific situation, I made it to the superday with one of the big prop firms and got dinged after they had 2 more superday weekends with other schools. I'll be completing a MSF degree next spring and wanted to know if I had any shot if I applied again. My thought is that the worst that can happen is that I'm not invited to interview and I'm in the same position I'm in now, so no big deal. I guess I want to know if there are any success stories out there with people who got dinged once and ended up getting an offer with the same firm after more education, experience, etc.

Absolutely. I have heard of this happen all of the time. Personally I summered at one BB and moved to another that had previously turned me down.

I interned with a BB this summer and unfortunately couldn't get a Full-time offer. I am now trying to re-apply to their Asian offices. I do have a couple of MDs and VPs who can vouch for the quality of my work and I am still in touch with them and the HR. Has anyone been through a similar situation? Need some advice.

out of curiosity, how many people in your class were offered full time jobs? In retrospect to your question, contact the MD and ask him for his help.
I think it was 3/9 in my group. I was off cycle and so I was actually a lonely intern for my 2 months. The others came in after I was done. MDs are of course more than willing to provide references but don't know what else I can ask them. Was hoping someone would have had experience in this regard. Nice name by the way :)

I have received a transfer offer to a target school and it will take an extra year for me to graduate. I was wondering if it is harder to reapply after being dinged this year.

Wouldn't waste a year in another school
As long as you are networking and have something finance-related this summer you should be fine for next summer. Don't count on being at a target helping that much (it helps, but isn't the end all), main advantage of target is that their are more alumni to network with.

They might but I wouldn't worry about it. Just use your MBA email address and create a new profile to apply. If it comes up (it won't), just be honest and say there was a better opportunity at the time but you've always been interested in working for them and feel that this opportunity is a great fit.
