Experience of dealing with layoffs

Hi, I'm wondering whether anyone is in the same shoes as I am.
I have been laid off 2 times consecutively.
Once is majorly due to lack of technical skill - not being able to meet the fund manager's standard.
I was referred to a start-up fund by a friend without having sufficient investment knowledge (I used to work in Asset Management Product Manager Role).
Being defeated and desperate, I joined a bulge bracket firm's PWM unit in NYC.
I felt that this might be a safer choice, since the technical skill required is much less, and the firm strengthens on giving new joiners time to ramp up.
At the same time, there is a lot of exposure to a variety of investment products and ideas, which is quite interesting.
However, after a few months, once again I was laid off.
The manager thinks that I do not have the strong potential and network to bring in ultra-rich clients, and I was not able to handle his daily admin stuff diligently enough.

To be honest, I have been losing confidence after being laid off twice.
I am not sure whether I should still strive for some interesting roles related to equity investment again.
I have applied to around 60 sell side or buy side roles, but didn't get any reply.
My career seems screwed up - jumping from a start up hedge fund to a bulge bracket PWM unit.
I am also considering making the safest choice - finding a stable job which is not so demanding since I can not afford another defeat.

Anyone who has similar experience of being laid off multiple times, and have gaps in CV?
How did you overcome the difficulty? Thank you for your advice.
