Hi all, I am a business analyst with three years of experience in SQL,EXCEL,R and python. I am applying for an MBA this fall for the batch starting next fall. My post Mba goal is to work in corporate finance in a FP&A role. I come from a quantitative heavy background of engineering and have a passion for working.in finance. I have acquired knowledge on accounting and corporate finance through online courses. I am also a regular investor on a personal level. Just wanted to know what can be done to transition in a corporate finance/ FP&A role ? Is Mba the way to go ? Thanks, Parantap

Before committing all that money to an MBA just to do FP&A why not just get a financial analyst role and see if you like it? FP&A is great for some but it’s not a bunch of quant finance, it’s managerial finance. So you’ll be working with leadership to tell a story around the finances and help come up with direction for the company (or at least advise on it). The day to day is pretty grindy, and requires a decent amount of practical accounting knowledge.
