Went to boarding school in Switzerland AMA

Since coming to America for college, people have been asking me what was my experience like but I never gave them the complete "tea" about it since I don't want them to think bad of me. Plus, I like this app more than Reddit, I mean Reddit sucks but it's good for AMAs so feel free to ask me anything ! I'm a girl btw. Pleaseeee don't MS me I'm willing to spill all the dirty secrets.

How many years did you go - how much was it per year? Do you have a crazy network from this school?

Four years. Well, tuition always varies but my senior year costed +130K. It's always around 120-150K so i can't really give you a specific number. As for connections, you really get anywhere you want but I'd like to work for myself not because my family knows so and so.

How was the hookup culture? Are girls more or less dtf than in America? Are they hotter and/hornier there?

Thanks.Β

Hookup culture was pretty normal I'd say. Nothing too crazy, girls were very pretty but there's pretty girls everywhere. I wouldn't say we were constantly horny but we always liked someone.

were the people there academic? most of the people from my swiss boarding school (100k+ tuition) ended up with really mediocre grades and it seemed like they didn't care about college at all. from what I observed the school was full of rich kids who will never see an office in their life (my tuition was free so this is an outside perspective).

Pretty relative tbh. Only 5 or 7 had that drive to only apply to Ivy Leagues because they were THAT confident that they would get in due to our school reputation, connections and money, but overall, we were pretty smart. Every single one of us (at least from my graduating class) got into awesome schools not only in the States but also in England. Obviously there were some pretty bratty behavior from students towards teachers when they didn't get a "reasonable" grade but teachers couldn't fight back at them since they would get in trouble. It's sad i know

I haven't been bored since sophomore summer of HS. I don't understand it anymore. There always seems like there is something to do.

I wanna know too since it's not common at all to give away full scholarships in Swiss boarding school. Your parents had to be able to pay half of it for you to attend so you'd have to be reasonably wealthy. Oh and the applications process is a joke, for you to even consider applying your kid to boarding school, without even knowing if they are eligible to get in, you have to pay them a NON refundable fee that costs 3-4K. Madness

During senior week we took our friends private jet (he has a private jet just for him and his brother) and we went to Paris so we could eat at this friends favorite restaurant (it was also his bday week) well after that we were supposed to hop on the plane to go back to school to attend our ceremony the day after. We drank too much and ended up sleeping on the plane (we were waiting for this friend to show up since he claimed that he had left his wallet at the restaurant. This dude took 3 whole hours to show up. Later on we come to find out he lost his virginity to the girl that spent her night serving us. Not a dark and messed up story but pretty memorable, mostly for him lol.

Next day we were all fucked up

Anywhere really. But since I'm no longer reunited with my friends on a daily basis, we all spend majority of our summer in Mykonos. Which is a pretty common place for kids that go to school in Switzerland. It's exciting being rejoined again, and, we can gossip about our adventures in America and Ldn.

It was 1000% worth it. It is located in one of the most beautiful countries in the world (imo) everything's so peaceful there and the people are reserved. It's funny cuz I didn't really wanted to go, my parents kind of forced me to. They did this to me and the rest of my siblings once we turned 14. I had my whole life in my home country, my school, my friends, and the fact that they didn't even care about my feelings hurt me a lot. Despite that, it was a great great experience! I'm a pro at skiing now, I'm fluent in 3 languages and all my friends are from around the world!

Best experience was that we could travel (only to European countries) while still in school. like, there was a time (mostly on Saturdays after class, yes we had classes on Saturday but only until 12:45 pm) where we could go to concerts and shopping in Paris, make a quick trip to Barcelona things like that. Of course, we had to come back otherwise they would tell our parents. But our parents never gave a fuck. The only negative thing was the IB curriculum. It is the most intense experience of your life. the exam was rigged as fuck. Still got nightmares from it.

Uh fuck no. Not when they are that young. Maybe their last two years of school. That's a good age for them to go. No younger that 16.

America's been treating me nice ngl. I'd say people here are really nosy but that's everywhere you go haha. Classes are challenging but being in the school I was, it definitely made it "easier" for me to comprehend certain things. The only thing i still can't adjust while being here and please, this is not an insult but you guys eat dinner so so early ! I cannot eat dinner by 4pm that's brunch time for euros hahah. I still eat dinner at 8 or 9 with my other European fellas but that's all. No disrespect to no one whatsoever.

One misconception about us is that we are stuck up and can't do anything on our own. While there were people like this at my school, you can also find pure and genuine people that are gonna change your life for the better. No ones a evil bitch or a prick, but a lot of them behave like one. It all depends who you associate yourself with.

Coolest things was that we could ski when we wanted. It was mandatory but everyone would do it almost everyday. It's not a tiring sport at all and it became my favorite thing to do in Winter time !

feel free to ask more if you'd like! I'm on a 16 hour flight and just 2 hours in. Pretty bored

Between Le Rosey, Aiglon, Beau Soleil and TASIS. I'd rather not say haha sorry. I personally think your kids are gonna love it there but don't send them when they're really young. My parents made that mistake and they were already absent before I moved to Switzerland. Me and my siblings have a very normal and polite relationship with them. I mean i respect and love them very very much but they're not my best friends at all.

Ask away, still bored.

I could write a whole book about the things I've seen but I'll tell you one of my favs. A classmate of mine had this wedding to attend in Spain. It was his cousin's if I'm correct ?

Anyways, he was really excited because he was gonna see his family and also, he was going to skip the last two days of school (Friday and Saturday). Well, two days after, his mom called telling him that he couldn't go on the family's private jet because his dad was already using it for a business trip. He went HAM on his mom. Cussing and being a complete moron about the whole situation. This guy HATES public transportation he HATES it so a commercial was out of the question. His sweet mom started to apologize to him, saying she was gonna find a solution.

The next day his mom called and she told him that he didn't have to worry about it because his dad had another private jet he owned in Germany. She sent one of her employees to pick the private jet, and then go to Switzerland to pick my friend up.

Uh, frankly, I was never into the sorority system, my apologies i don't know what you guys call it here but girls were definitely very welcoming and touchy as well. They all started stalking me as soon as I visited the campus with a girlfriend of mine. Trying to see if I had TikTok or not so they could see what was i about, all that stuff. I do have more friends in frats than girlfriends in sororities. There were two popular houses (the ones that every girl wanted to be in) that were continually ask me to go out with them. like lunch dates, movies and shopping...

I just couldn't see myself being surrounded by them 24/7, not because they were annoying but because there was definitely some interest around me bc of the school i attended and the things I had. And for that, i declined.

Funny you ask that. For some reason they all get sort of surprised when I tell them what school i went to. Tbh i feel like the only similarity was that they also went to a boarding school. They didn't party like us or spent like us that's for sure, they're definitely more simpler and low key compared to the stories we have, which is something I really like.

WinnieWonder, what's your opinion? Comment below:

good to know we've had a similar experience! Well, growing up I had absent parents even before going to boarding school.

Both of them were working and wouldn't spend much time with me and my siblings which sucked for most part. It wasn't a normal thing to just sit and eat dinner together. It was mostly me and the siblings and our Oma. Oma pretty much raised us.

She was a liv in nanny (think of Jessie, the Disney show) but she was older than the main character haha. We had staff working for our family that was more around than our own parents. When our parents would return home, we would feel so weird around them, almost intimidated. Like Oma was our mother and father. She would wake us up to go to school, she would give us baths, feed us, takes us to the movies, travel with us to whenever we wanted (our parents would tell her to). Me and her have the best bond ever. She's my favorite person in the whole world and I love her very much. She taught me kindness, she taught me to be grateful and humble and to appreciate everything we have.

She doesn't work for us anymore since we are all adults but I call her every single week and she's part of the family and always will be.

What's the average net worth of families who sent their kids to the school?

Do you think it made a meaningful impact on your personality / aspirations (e.g. can people usually tell you went to boarding school, or do they assume you have an average upbringing?)

Which geographic location are you originally from? Do you see yourself going back?

May 11, 2022 - 3:05pm
WinnieWonder, what's your opinion? Comment below:

Average +100 million for sure. It was very normal to have like a full class (our classes are pretty small, max 7-8 people, min 2) of billionaire kids mostly from Europe and Asia. It is definitely rare to see Americans in a Swiss boarding school.

Well for better or for worse, it had a huge impact in my life most definitely. There was a time where I became a little bratty. Complaining about this online order that didn't get in time, spending thousands in a week, but I feel like that only happened because I was already into this "toxic" bubble so I'm gonna blame that stupid behavior on the influences I was getting back then. Ofc this only happened during my second year there so I'm definitely more calm and grown to realize that what i was doing wasn't ok, my Oma raised me better than that.

People can't really tell i went to boarding school in Switzerland since I don't have an accent but they can definitely tell that I had a pretty good education based on my posture, way of speaking, things I have... you get the idea haha

I don't wanna say where I'm originally from because I know people on this site and that would give me away but I'm from Europe! My dad is not European but my mom is ! Tbh I don't see myself living in my home country. I really really fell in love with Switzerland. After graduation I 100% wanna go back to Europe but you never know life's unpredictable. I like where I am right now. This mindset might chance next month I'm just like that but for now I'm focused on getting that degree !

Crazy, extravagant, over the top and all those other synonyms haha. Girls would buy the most expensive dresses ever like a 3k dress from Balmain or Versace to only wear it once and then "throw it away" not literally but I think you know what I mean. There were some drugs but definitely more drinkers than anything. A lot of money spent on one night by several students. Nightlife in Switzerland is pretty dope but it stays almost 2 hours away from our school so we had to hire a private driver to take us to all the cool spots.

The expectation is to succeed in anything we do, to be the best of the best. This can be for anyone who's ambitious and driven.

There is definitely a higher expectation otherwise our parents wouldn't be paying almost 160k per year. I would like to start my own company since I'm very business oriented mostly because of my family, and I like the idea of having to wear a suit for work. Not like a basic suit but like a stylish one where i can feel comfortable in and add some nice jewelry. Kids in my boarding school wanted to do the same. Own a company, a hotel, a clothing brand. Very business oriented for suree

I am not sure why my comment did not pass. I asked firstly if you met any members of the nobility during your time in the school, if so if/how they seemed or acted differently to the other students and if they were treated any differently. I would assume in a school with so many wealthy families they wouldn't be too out of place. Secondly, I was interested to know the locations of most students, in particular if there were any from areas such as Africa, South America and Eastern Europe.

Lastly, I hope to send my sons to Eton one day, I am interested to hear your opinion on how the school you attended shaped your experience growing up, and if you think it was overall a boon to you as a person, both personally and in terms of the connections you made. Would you say that you have a network of contacts that could be of a great advantage to you one day in your career? Finally, do you know anyone from schools such as Eton, or know of the reputation such a school has in Switzerland?
