First of all, you're a freshman meaning that you should be focusing on getting any internship that falls within the finance/business realm (wealth, investment banking, corporate finance, etc.) and focus on making sure you know your technicals for upper year recruiting. Before you even think about mega fund PE, you should focus on getting an IB summer gig or pension fund role in Toronto. Although Ivey/QC are targets in Canada, they aren't so much in the states unfortunately. Also recommend you join a finance/investment club since many firms tend to recruit from them. Good luck.

Lowkey you shoulda came to Waterloo for coop. I'm here rn in second year and I've already gotten 2 bay st buyside positions during the winter and fall when there's no competition from other schools. But regardless I think you just need to relax and focus on getting a search fund/wealth management internship and then network hard to get a buyside internship for sophomore or junior summer which I think is definitely possible from Ivey/queens.
