PE IR interview prep/process

Hi everyone, Im currently working on a career pivot from BB IB (am a 1st year VP) to PE IR and wanted to find out more about the interview process and case studies from those who made similar moves in the past. Saw great overviews about the nature of the job here but I havent been able to find as much on what are the best resources to study for technicals and practice case studies. It seems like there might be less out there vs for traditional investment roles, so any general recommendations on prep would be very helpful too. Very much appreciated for any advice

If you’re a VP in banking you have all the requisite technical skills. I wouldn’t stress over any type of case study. If you’ve worked on story telling to sell a business or raise capital it’s process wise similar. There are nuances obviously but at the end of the day you’re taking your firms strategy and data associated with it to tell a compelling story to potential investors. Case studies are usually PowerPoint based with some degree of data manipulation. It’s not really a modeling job. It’s just putting lipstick on a pig. If you’re stepping in at the VP level into a sales role (vs. product) I would be more focused on your Rolodex. Ok the product side it’s mostly process management.

Thank you very much! That makes sense to me.

You mentioned the focus would be on rolodex for a sales role, which would be of most interest to me. Since I would not necessarily have existing industry contacts relevant for PE IR, I was wondering if you’ve ever seen anyone at the VP level make the career move or if there is a possibility I need to take a step back to associate.
