It's understandable to feel conflicted about how to answer the question "what do you do for work?" when you're in a field like investment banking that can be seen as glamorous or elitist. Ultimately, it's up to you how much detail you want to provide about your job. Some people may choose to give a general description of their field (e.g. finance, banking) without going into specifics, while others may be comfortable sharing more details about their role. It's important to be genuine and true to yourself in how you answer the question. Remember, your job doesn't define you as a person, and there are many other interesting things about you that you can talk about in social situations.

I don’t mean this disrespectfully, and I am genuinely asking, did an AI write this?

Told my childhood friend I'm gonna work at a bank after college. He thought I'd be a teller and honestly don't give a fuck to it.

直指人心,見性成佛

I think it’s condescending and arrogant to give the answer you give now. "A bank in [my city], nothing exciting".

If your first answer is banking or finance, and they want to know more, you be respectful and answer. Are you trying to hide it? There’s no reason to be dishonest, especially if you think you may interact with them again. You will be remembered as a jerk. What if they were cagey with you?
