Incoming SA in FiDi living in JC?
I am an incoming SA at a bank in FiDi
My parents live in JC/Newport right by the PATH station - it'll be a 20-30 min commute to the office max
Is it reasonable to live at home for the summer? I would like to live comfortably and the commute doesn't seem in line with what other SAs would do. I don't want to affect my performance though (and I've read the other threads advising not to commute from NJ if commutes can be 1+ hours or so)
And will firms care about the extra couple bucks for the Uber home? I expect it to be ~70$ to JC, which seems to be about 10-20$ more expensive than an Uber to somewhere in Midtown at night
I know the social aspect of the SA experience is huge - I was thinking the Uber home late at night will still be way cheaper than the money I'll be spending on rent... It also seems weird to rent out a place like 5/6mi from home
Given how I have less than a month before my start date, I also fear it's too late to search for dorms/apartments...
Is this a reasonable decision? Thanks for your your advice!
For a 10 week internship, it’s doable. Might depend on how sweaty the group is too.
I recommend actually doing a few practice runs so you get a sense of how long it will take you. Since you said your parents live there you may already be familiar with the commute already
Thank you!
Completely fine. Plenty of FTs live in JC.
The Ubers are okay, just don't abuse it (i.e. you can take the PATH at 10am on Sunday even if your firm technically pays for weekend ones)
Appreciate the tip, thank you!
I would honestly play it safe for the internship and get the Facetime in(experiences will vary based on the group). As an analyst, I think JC is a great spot to be in, and a lot of my friends and I are in JC. I am at a sweaty group in Fidi region, and am saving tons even with the Uber and hotel costs for hu's being added(granted don't exactly get many nights to go out anyway).
Appreciate the perspective, thanks!

You can find an Uber to most places in mid town for much cheaper normally then $50. Would expect it to be closer to 15-25
