Awful Headhunters to Avoid

Compiling bad HHs so that WSOers can avoid getting scammed during the job search

- CBK partners: bait and switch mandates to no name regional boutiques, blasts your resume randomly without your permission to groups that you have no interest in, spams you then ghosts you

- Selby Jennings: blasts your resume to the wrong groups, low ball comp

Totally agree that we should avoid Selby Jennings. Not even sure they have the live mandates when they reach out via email or call you, but they call you about roles that are also available on the company's website.

Furthermore, they do not have a centralized database where they record candidate's preferences. What that means is if you speak to a recruiter based in Chicago and tell them not to call you before setting up a call and you are not interested in North Carolina region, you will still have a call from the NC-based recruiters. Then after you tell them you are not interested in NC region, they still continue to call you. Their approach can be described as "cannot blame a girl for trying..."

I don’t think I’ve ever had a firm fuck me over as bad as Ferguson Partners.

Some human decency goes a long way.

Will answer saying my own red flags, can be in any firm;

  • The person contacting you has been here for under 6 months and calls you without knowing why you would be a fit for the job

- person calls you for an opportunity miles away from your background: think quant when working in IB Cov for yearsperson ghosts you and then contacts you again without giving you any update on past process

  • person telling you that a comp package is « reasonable and shouldn't be discussed »

These to me are the biggest red flags in any headhunter discussion/relationship.

Can anyone please explain what's the deal with Pinpoint? It's like a job spam tsunami hitting me with roles that are about as relevant as VLOOKUP. And when, by some miracle, I spot a gig that matches my skills, they go silent. It's like they're paid by the spam sent. By far the worst of the worst IMO.
