Relocation for (tax) climate - M&A in Switzerland/Dubai?/Portugal?
Hi all,
I've long been wanting to move away from the Nordics, partially due to the climate, and partially due to the tax climate. My wife and I are currently based in Norway, but we are now looking elsewhere. We have had a good handful of our friends move to Switzerland the last year, and although that seems like the most optimal place, I am trying to weigh our various options thoroughly. We are considering Switzerland, Dubai, and Portugal, in part because they have a better climate than where we are, and there are tax deals in place. The move isn't primarily driven by taxation, but that is part of the reason. Norway is currently contemplating an exit tax for entrepreneurs (see Bloomberg article), and as some of our family is already located abroad, we don't want to risk being "stuck" in Norway with a 40% exit tax if we want to live elsewhere. My wife owns her own company, and I have interests in three companies where I invested early or came aboard as an advisor (with stock payment). I am not making enough money through my other engagements to cover our living expenses and would thus have to rely on getting a job.
I currently work in a CorpDev role, and a part of that job is M&A. After speaking to friends, it seems like my best bet would be to go back into IB (which I did for five years, primarily in industrials), in Zurich, or to a large industrial conglomerate that does M&A. What other options do I have? Is it even feasible or realistic to consider the other two options? What salary range can I expect if I come in with 7-8 years of experience in Zurich?
