The Next Big Thing In Tech

Hello monkeys

With all this doom and gloom around tech layoffs and cost cuts, what do you think will be the next vertical in tech that will grow into the next FAANG? Given how a number of big tech firms emerged after the dot com burst, it would seem that the next big tech thing will rise out of the ashes of this current tech situation. Welcome any thoughts!

Unironically twitter (the little private company owned by some guy whose name starts with an E)

Guy is taking some political hits at the moment but looking at his track-record the man has some absolutely sycophant level fans who I’m sure will finance twitter through the current market conditions by spending 8$ on whatever the fuck that guy comes up with. And if he has a real mainstream hit (relatively easy as even the most liberal keep using twitter) that should be enough to increase his valuation to truly big tech status.

I honestly don’t see FAANG going away for quite some time. They’re badly hurt right now, sure. But they have massive balance sheets, political connections that run deep, and are able to acquire their competition.

The AI space is really hot right now, it’s getting unbelievably good and I think it’ll continue to do amazing things. I still think Google has the balance sheet to purchase most of those companies and market them to make them profitable.

Apple still dominates consumer hardware, it’s the phone to have in the market right now (yes, there are better and cheaper alternatives. But how many people here still have an iPhone?).

Netflix might get killed. If Amazon can fend off the feds and still retain AWS, they still have their spot. AWS is crazy successful.

Facebook might get killed off, but only to be replaced by something else. My bet is they buy out the next big thing, like they did with Instagram.

I still think B2B SaaS has its place and will continue to grow. Tons of niches, and tech isn’t a “winner takes all” category in every market.

I flip flop on Web3 personally.

Interesting mate - can you elaborate more on AWS vs Netflix? or do you mean Amazon prime

Facebook is an interesting one - I’m following news on them competing with TikTok, will be interesting to see how the short form video ads market evolves.

Oh I wasn’t making a comparison between Netflix and Amazon (though you bring up a good point regarding Prime), more so just noting that AWS accounts for a majority of Amazon’s profits and is the major market leader for all cloud computing.
