Exploring Venture Capital Career Paths: Transitioning from Dutch Firms to London Opportunities

Hi,

I just wanted to ask what exit opportunities were like when going from Dutch healthcare PE/VC companies such as:

  • Rivean Capital.
  • Forbion.
  • Gilde Equity Management.

I find it exciting to possibly move to Netherlands (from London) for some years to gain experience starting as a VC analyst, but would like to know how well respected it would be when maybe applying for jobs back in London later down the line?

Many thanks

Based on the most helpful WSO content, transitioning from Dutch healthcare PE/VC firms back to London can be a strategic career move, provided you build a strong track record and network. Firms like Rivean Capital, Forbion, and Gilde Equity Management are well-regarded in the industry and experience there should be valuable. Here's how it could play out:

  • Reputation and Experience: These firms have a good standing and can provide you with quality experience in healthcare investments, which is a sector with global relevance. London's finance sector values international experience, especially if it comes with a specialization in a sector like healthcare.

  • Networking: While working in the Netherlands, it's crucial to maintain and expand your professional network in London. This can be done through attending industry events, staying in touch with former colleagues, and leveraging platforms like LinkedIn.

  • Skill Transferability: The skills you acquire in PE/VC are largely transferable, especially if you're involved in cross-border transactions or deals that have relevance to the UK market.

  • Market Knowledge: Gaining insights into the European healthcare market can be a unique selling point when applying for roles back in London.

  • Recruitment: When considering a move back, reaching out to headhunters who specialize in PE placements, such as KEA, Walker Hamill, Blackwood, and PER, can be beneficial. They can guide you on how to position your experience for the London market.

Remember, it's not just about the brand name but also about the deals you work on and the impact you have. Make sure to document your achievements and how they could be relevant to firms in London. The key is to demonstrate how your experience can add value to a London-based firm.
