How often to follow up on next HF interview?
I know these questions suck but bear with me...
I interviewed with a fund in early March and I met with all analysts + the PM/head of research. They told me they wanted to do a case study as the next step with directions to follow and a case debrief in person. They said that it was very early in the process so to be patient, but that directions would be sent over in early April. I followed up around early-to-mid April and asked for an update and they said it has been very busy but they will follow up soon.
Haven't heard anything since then, so ~3 weeks now (and now we are deep in earnings season so...)
Does this sound like I am cut? Is it normal to go like +4 weeks with no communication in between rounds? Don't want to follow up again to risk pestering them since they said to be patient (or appear too desperate). Nothing has been through HR - all through the PM. The fund is small headcount wise but decent AUM. Just seems odd to indicate originally that they would send case over in early April and its now May 1. On the other hand, it is earnings, things get pushed out, recruiting is back of mind, and I have heard it can take a while.
rule of thumb is to follow up every 30 minutes until you hear back, so that they know you're serious about the job and remain highly interested. Also demonstrates your perseverance
Would be patient and wait to follow up until 1 week post-earnings. These processes take a long time and are typically take a back seat to pnl generation. Seen plenty of instances where folks don’t hear back for 1-2 months and end up moving forward
Lot of places have 10x candidates to look through now, plus headcount mandates have paused given volatility. That plus a backlog makes it tough. Once a week should be fine, but explore other options
Once a week is way more often than I anticipated honestly! Just seems weird for them to say they want to bring me in for a case study and to wait for the instructions and then decide they no longer want to (despite me checking with them a month or so later and them confirming they still want to). I know its easy to be overanxious and ask stupid waiting game questions like this, but its been 3 weeks so check again i guess?!
Just phrase it like you have a vacation or somewhere to go maybe and want to make sure it doesn't interfere. Shows some proactive measures, but if they don't answer, just drop it then. Ghosting can be common tbh, so try not to take it personal. Can also see it like, "if they were interested, they'd be on top of it, so some true colored cone out

Follow up a week or two after earnings (so like 2-3 weeks from now). That will show you have some EQ and understand that life gets put on hold during earnings.
I like the posture of saying you’re going to take vacation and just want to plan accordingly but assuming this is a somewhat reasonable person if they say hey we want you to do the case study next week and you say oh I’m out of town then they’ll just plan it for when you’re back. So not sure trying to veil the request as some kinda brown-nosing is really all that worth it.
