MM ER to HF timeline?

Hi everyone, currently incoming 2024 SA at a MM doing ER. Have done SM HF internships and really enjoyed the experience. Assuming I likely won't want to stay in ER on the sellside forever, what would the process usually look like for recruiting to SM/MMHF? I know it isn't as structured as PE recruiting, but would I need to go to a BB/EB bank/top ranked analyst if my analyst isn't fantastic? How many years do people generally stay in SS ER before making the jump?
