Foreign BB or New York LMM?
To be concise, I am a nontarget third-year working to break into Wall Street, and I haven’t been able to secure any top tier interviews in NYC, but I’ve managed to secure several in Dubai, Singapore, Tokyo… the list goes on.
My longterm goal is still Wall Street BB, but I was wondering if it would be better to take a lower tier offer in NYC, or take a BB offer elsewhere and apply during on-cycle recruiting next year?
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.
If you don't mind me asking how did you land interviews in Dubai?
Honestly the same process I used for NYC: lots of research, network prior to applications, build relationships and get to know the firm and role therein, secure a few recommendations from Associates and up, and apply at open.
It worked perfectly for roles abroad, but I had little success in the States, with networking being the number one issue. I have nearly 1500 LinkedIn connections in IB outside the US, and maybe 100 inside. I think it comes down to my university, but I’m also trying to figure out if there is a disconnect on my end.

Are you a US citizen
Yes, I was born in the US.
If your goal is nyc, take a job in nyc.
Living abroad for your first gig when you’re used to America would be kinda tough while also learning and working long hours. You could feel isolated and lonely.
