Not sure. What I meant by exception is that apparently M&A has brutal culture, is pretty intense (makes sense), and has a high bar for interns technically. Put that all together and it is just harder to get a return offer. Heard the same ab MS M&A from someone at MS. Definitely not 90+% (from what I've heard) at either.

Interned at JPM summer 21. Return rates were pretty low, but most of it was likely due to poor candidates from COVID hiring. Don’t believe it’s usually that low. I don’t believe M&A is an exception. M&C and HC were pretty competitive for return offers as well

Yes please elaborate on HC and M&C, do you have stats? Like out of X interns how many-ish didn't get a return?

When I interned at JPM ~70% of my group got offers. Pretty sure most groups operate by the mantra that it’s your offer to lose, meaning that they don’t over hire and have space for each intern to join full time.

Tbh getting a return wasn’t too hard. I’m a complete dumbass and got one. Just be proactive, ask questions, network with your team, and show that you can improve throughout the 2 months that your interning. Don’t drink at events and don’t do anything disrespectful. You’ll have a good idea if you’re likely to get one half way through the internship when you do your review.
