A+F vs Financial Maths for IB ?
Hello fellow people,
Currently trying to decide between studying Accounting and Finance or Financial Mathematics (both semi-targets). Would prefer FM a little more as it is 75% maths and 25% A+F however it is definitely a harder course. Will it make any difference when recruiting for springs & summers ? I’m looking at alumni and I don’t see many doing springs at banks to be honest. Please let me know your opinion. Have a great day :)
Note: Aspiring to work in M&A however would like to keep options open career wise and therefore think maths could be a good route?
My friend did Financial Maths and was successful at getting MO risk-related roles but that's not what you are looking for. It depends on the programme but some don't teach much finance, it's still Maths so grads don't know much about finance anyway.
It teaches the core financial knowledge needed, I’m just curious whether it would put me at a disadvantage compared to A+F students.
No math is allowed in finance
.
What’s financial maths?
For banking, accounting is probably even more important than finance.
I rather have a junior who understands how to quickly model the BS when I say we need to refinance a convertible preferred in x year opposed to a junior who can calculate the basis risk for a CDS on some 10-yr notes for an non-OECD country
