Is it realistic to break into IB as an English and French(b2) speaker?
Hi, I know this topic has been beaten to death across both wso and reddit, but there seems to be a lot of opposite information regarding what MSc I should choose/apply for to maximize my chance of getting into IB, so all of your input is very much appreciated!
In context: I'm currently finishing my bsc at a Dutch uni (graduating next year), and I'm hoping to break into IB (I don't have any specific preference regarding cities to work) and I'm B2 in French (and I know that if I study in France for 2 years, I'll most probably be fluent in it). I'm considering a variety of targets like SSE, WHU, RSM, Bocconi, and Paris Dauphine.
Cost-wise, places like RSM, Bocconi, SSE, and WHU seem to be the better choice than the likes of HEC and ESSEC while still having a great reputation (and correct me if I'm wrong all of them seem to have better rep than Dauphine). My question is: Given my limited variety of languages (English and French), how realistic is it to get a job in IB after graduating from those respective unis as an English speaker? Should I go all in for French unis?
And for France, besides Dauphine, what school would you recommend that has decent placement (even if it's just in France) and that does break the bank to study?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, speaking both English and French at a B2 level is quite advantageous for breaking into investment banking (IB), especially in European markets. Here’s a breakdown of how your language skills and educational choices might impact your IB career prospects:

In summary, with your language skills and the strategic choice of a well-regarded business school, breaking into IB is quite realistic. Enhancing your French to a fluent level and choosing a school with strong industry connections will be key factors in achieving your career goals in investment banking.
