Anyone commute from SF to Sunnyvale / Mountain View?

Have an opportunity for a job way out in the boonies and trying to figure out where to live. I've lived in NYC / Chi before an never had too rough a time commute-wise. I figure I'd be looking at an hour+ commute each way, but the though of living in like, San Jose (or even Palo Alto, to be honest) as a 26 year old makes me want to claw my eyes out. Anyone have experience doing this?

has anyone in a junior banker sort of role commuted from sf (southern parts of city so it’s easier to get to freeway) to Menlo Park or Palo Alto? trying to see whether this is feasible before I start ft

Interned at a bank in Redwood City and lived nearby. Definitely hated living in the suburbs. Most of my coworkers commuted from SF and it was usually a 45 minute drive each way. None of them seemed to regret living in SF, but they absolutely dreaded the commute and would often come early just to avoid dealing with it.

San Jose isnt the worst place in the world and might be worth it depending on your priorities. SF to Sunnyvale is 40 miles each way, and that will add up. At least an hour drive depending on traffic.

Not really sure there is a winning situation here, but as a 26 yo, take SF or SJ, not the suburbs.
