massage gun suggestions?
Hello fellow monkeys,
Burntout 1st year analyst here. Developed extreme back pain from working 16+ hours 6 days/week for the past year. Came across "massage guns" on instagram, was curious if these have worked well for you? And if so, which brands would you suggest (Amazon has endless options and all of them look alike, I couldn't choose haha)
Theragun
The handle on the Theragun makes a huge difference. Can easily get any spot without much difficulty. Use mine religiously due to a torn pec and my old back problems.
Would recommend a lacrosse ball too in order to really nail into some points.
Another vote for theragun. Have the elite version and highly recommend it. Has a good app too.
Theragun
Also if you are having back pain I would invest in a nice chair (not sure if you have one). Herman Miller chairs are expensive but I highly recommend them.
Extremely clueless/new with regards to back pain... I'm a student, so I'm often hunched over taking notes and that sort of thing all day -- I'm one of those people who naturally find their faces 5 inches away from the paper I'm writing on. I rarely make contact with the back support of the chair. Interested in investing in something nicer but not sure if it's worth it considering I'm constantly sitting in odd positions anyway (bent over at a 45 degree angle rather than sitting upright). Getting to a point where my back feels strained within 2-3 hours at the desk, luckily not much pain yet, but not sure it's avoidable considering the aforementioned. Might just need to pay attention to posture.
Yeah a chair only does so much. Proper posture will help more and the best chair won’t solve that. Additionally, exercise and stretching can be very beneficial, as can getting up once an hour to just walk around a bit. I would highly recommend short breaks throughout the day.
theragun is insane for jerking off too lmao
Do you just let it punch you in the dick a hundred times or something? That sounds like some [Lloyd BIankfein] stuff right there.
"Buy the THERAGUN and let it PUNCH YOU in the DICK"
Goldman should be handing out Theraguns to analysts
OP here: while I'd love to get my hands on Theragun -- which is, apparently, the pinnacle of massage guns -- I actually am on a budget and looking for the cheaper knock-off versions (~$100 level). Let me know if you have any suggestions from this sub-group
Maybe buy one used and just dip the tip in bleach lol
I would say just buy a used one and then buy new attachements. Could probably find a third party set of attachments on Amazon for cheap.

Duplicate. Delete.
how are you in IB and on a tight budget
Bob and Brad massage gun is extremely good. Funny enough I was gonna buy one. Friend had the B&B and sold it to me cause he got the theragun pro.
I'd go with Bob and Brad cause it's reliable.
I still have a $30 one I cheaped out on and it's a piece of shit from China, but still isn't that bad considering it's the price of a good foam roller. But yeah buy one for $100-150
Also the theragun elite and below are VERY overpriced (because of huge marketing costs and margin and brand). The pro is the only one worth getting from their brand and that’s if you want the best no holds barred. Their elite and other modes are similar enough to the Bob and Brad that’s $100 (e.g. theragun elite is somewhat better but not $200 better cause the B&B is good enough).
to fix back pain you need to work out and stretch
THIS. Plus, in high-stress high-status environments such as .... yes baby.... IB, "extreme" back pain and other physical symptoms are linked to anxiety, anger, and repressed emotions. PM me and I'll send you some stuff to read... if you ever find the time lol
Got the VYBE off Amazon. Silly name but works great.
damn just checked this out, they are a tad cheaper than theragun but still expensive lol
I’d highly recommend a neck back massager. I have a neck massager that I can roll down and use on my back which easily gets everywhere and I don’t have to hold it. I have a theragun as well but its a bitch to hold there the whole time and hrs to reach most spots on your back.
Hope this helped!
sounds interesting, any brand suggestions for this?
Unfortunately, mine is from Brookstone which has since gone under. Check out the link, that one is very similar. Throw your arms through the loops and you can keep it on your back while working

OP here - just ordered TaoTronics professional version at a sub-$100 price point (discounted). Will try to update once I start using it
1st year analyst here. I highly recommend looking up the magic back support device. I lay on it in 5 minute increments and it’s significantly more helpful than the theragun I bought, and significantly cheaper. Highly highly recommend

My friend sold me a Bob and Brad before buying the theragun pro. In my eyes, either you get the bob and Brad (or similar massager) or the pro. The elite and below just aren't good enough to warrant the huge markup and everything. Even then the pro is overpriced, but considering it really is the best if not one of its a good price point for ppl who want the best regardless of cost (professionals, rich ppl, etc)
But yeah Funny post cuz I was looking to upgrade to the pro cause why not. Might hold off for a few months tho cause I'd rather gamble that $500 on risky stocks at the moment.
Or if not risky stocks invest more into some of the investments / things I have high conviction of atm and use the profits later.
I ordered a cheap massage gun on Amazon for around 45 bucks and was not that impressed. My buddy has a theragun and there is definitely a huge difference in how it feels. I couldn't convince myself to spend the money on it but I would avoid wasting cash on the cheaper amazon ones
Deadlifts, lat pull downs, reverse extensions and rows - will candidly take you much further by strengthening your back / core and solving the issue rather than the temporary, albeit satisfying relief of the massage gun.
100% agree, but would also say, in my case for instance, problems that have been chronic for awhile can be further strained without proper stretching. In that sort of scenario a lacrosse ball, foam roller, or massage gun is certainly needed to break up the stiff muscle. Anyone who’s been to been to physical therapy will know what I mean.
However, in 95% of cases a bit of stretching and work with a lacrosse ball will be more than enough to allow you to continue working out as usual.
You can use a massage gun for a variety of purposes, from posture-related pain to stress relief.
Buy a NAIPO back and neck massager from Amazon. $40 and I found it works better/is easier to use than a handheld massage gun.
Seconding the amazon suggestions. the $40-60 ones are just as good as a theragun imo.
I find a Glock 18 to be far more reliable for ending my back pains
