Noncompete what to do?

Have a noncompete at my firm for 3 months (I’m very junior).

It’s a Midwest based firm and I just received an offer at a BB in a better coverage group for more pay in NYC.

Do I tell my company that I’m leaving to that firm? Do I not say where I’m going? Can they do anything about me leaving legally speaking? Would the DOR call the DOR of the other company and tell him I’m violating my noncompete? Any merit in just waiting 3 months to update LinkedIn?

Your first priority is to not violate the non-compete because the last thing your new firm wants is a legal matter caused by you. Based on this situation, I would inform new firm that your start date has to be 3 months out from your quit date.

Then, quit the old firm without telling anyone anything. And enjoy 3 months off.

How would an employer know if you began your next job that was a competitor? Assuming you don't do anything stupid like updating LinkedIn, for example
