Hi all,
I applied for Point72's 2024 Summer Internship on 24th June, and received a link to complete a questionnaire on 5th July which I completed on the same day. However, I received a rejection letter a week after. I am passionate about investing and I've tried to express this through the survey by answering genuinely. I can't help but think there's an ideal way to answer these questions. Would love to hear some expert thoughts on how to answer these questions.
The 4 questions in the questionnaire are:
1. Why are you interested in a career on the buy side?
2. What is one book you have read outside of classwork recently and what did you learn from it?
3. What was the last thing you taught yourself?
4. If money were not a concern, what would be your dream profession?

The ideal way is to answer genuinely, which you did. Now that you took an L, does that mean your answers were wrong? Not necessarily, an event/ decision can't be judged by outcome (alone) - Taleb. Reflection is important, but there's a fine line between reflection and overthinking. If you overthink this, you'll drive yourself crazy by constantly second-guessing every word you say and thinking there's an 'ideal answer'. The hole you dig by doing this, never ends, and it will manifest itself in crazily oily answers you give to future questions. Take the L, don't take it personally, and continue improving yourself and your passion for markets.
No doubt you are. Therefore, you're a fairly decent candidate for P72. No cap. But guess what the catch is? There are 10 thousand other people with that same passion, profile and skills. 10 thousand other people read the job description and genuinely thought carefully and felt that each description/ requirement matched them exactly. 10 thousand other people follow the markets, build their own models, smashed their degrees and studied Buffett letters and Security Analysis. What gives?
Well said. I'm a fan of Taleb's work as well! Yes, you're right. Taking the L on this one, won't let it affect my next application. Will continue to improve and continue applying elsewhere as well. Thanks!
Got offer last year and don’t think I mentioned any investing books at all so don’t think they’re necessarily looking for people with investing xp exclusively

I've had this exact problem. Applied to internship 2x, winternship, accelerator, and full time programs and always gotten rejected after the questionnaire. I've used different answers and am a good writer so not sure whats up.
