Undergrad Choice- UConn or BC

Hi everyone,

High school senior here, decision deadline is only a couple days away. I'm basically down to UConn Honors or Boston College, but also accepted to BU, Villanova and Syracuse, among others. In state for UConn + merit scholarship makes the price close to 1/6th cheaper to attend UConn than it is to attend BC at full boat. I'm interested in investment banking or strategy consulting after graduation, hoping to stay in the northeast (prefer Boston or New York over Hartford though).

I have a friend at UConn now who was also in the Honors program, and he said the reputation is rising with multiple seniors accepting positions on Wall Street and strong placement at the Big 4 Accounting firms (for actual accounting and consulting), GE and some Connecticut based private equity and asset management firms. Is this rise in prestige noticeable at all? I love the campuses of both schools, and am a big sports guy, so UConn holds a slight edge there. But with interest in working in Boston and the reputation of a BC degree, would you advise I take on the extra debt? I've consulted many people already and simply want to get the feedback of more people who have had IBanking and consulting experience.

Thanks!

Current UConn sophomore here so take this with a grain of salt but... IMO you should definitely go with UConn. One of the biggest reasons why I chose UConn over a few other schools that are typically known to have a "higher prestige," was because this school, in particular the business school is very much on the rise and is finally getting the recognition it deserves. (Note: I'm out-of-state so it cost wasn't a factor into my decision) One of my favorite professors here, who is a Harvard grad, always agrees with me 100% on this. When I was deciding back in high school, I too was a little bit concerned with its reputation on the Street and with which firms recruit on campus, but just like you said every year another BB or AM group stops by the recruiting fair. So its very reassuring that this school is making very positive strides. Ultimately it's where you feel most comfortable and content but take my word for it when I say this school is awesome in every aspect.

(Also note: BC was one of the schools I chose UConn over, despite the heavy persuasion by my BC- alum filled family.)
