Anyone experiencing WSO comment errors?
When I try and comment on anything, get a message that says "An AJAZ HTTP request terminate abnormally. Debugging information follows. Path: /forums/thoughts-on-side-projects. StatusText: n/a. Response Text:. Ready State; , "
Anyone else getting this? @WallStreetOasis.com"
can you please give us more details. did you just experience the error now? We had some issues yesterday and we thought we pushed a fix live. so any details you can give us would be appreciated. Thank you!
Been happening throughout the weekend. Seriously it's every single time I want to comment and even on my throwaway account it's the same issue. Mobile or desktop, doesn't matter
Edit: happened on this comment
The weekend we found a known issue and pushed an update/fix that we thought worked...but devs back into the same nightmare issue yet again
I am going to keep this window open for 6 minutes and then try to submit this REPLY (not add comment button) to the initial comment I made to see if I get an ajax error.
yup I had an issue. pretty frustrated w this. I spent a good amount of time w an insightful comments, pressed send. hours later I checked where my comment was - gone.
what time was this?
Tough to gauge. early early morning ET
really apologie for this...looks like it was a chrome v83 bug...we're looking at bringing on more manual test users that can give us a weekly report to unearth these bugs faster.
Thanks
^^the comment is long is length. both in rows and number of characters, if that helps
We think we have a solution.
The patch has been sent live, please let us know if you still are seeing issues (or any of you)
Correct. The problem was happening with Chrome version 83.
No issues with this, but I've commented on a few threads recently and the thread doesn't update and show a new comment was added. It doesn't refresh the timing and instead says "0 comments, 8hr" when I literally just commented a moment ago. This has been happening for awhile now.
Using Chrome on Windows
Same. Just commented on a thread from last night and it didn't go to the top of Off Topic nor did it show a new comment was added.
WallStreetOasis.com another thing to look into unless there's a reason as to why
Threads discussing politics or discussions are hotbeds for violations/arguments are often "no bumped" so that more insightful industry discussions (that our experienced members enjoy) can float to the top. Think of it as a more subtle way to moderate/curate.
If you want to keep checking those threads then they are easy to find under your profile or My recent posts (under tracker)...we don't want to subject the entire site and readership to a small handful of overeager monkeys that like to debate back and forth :-)
So this is not a bug. Thanks for the heads up though.
god damn I love that. thank you for that change
I will say tho, for as long as I can remember I’ve always had issues with commenting on mobile..there’s even a comment that you can see I left if you click my profile -> comments, but when you go to the thread, it’s not there, and never was. will dm you the comment later
yes, please do let us know which comment... it may have accidently triggered the spam filter or something and automatically unpublished, but if you link me to the thread I can take a look.
The other issues commenting on mobile. Is it after you submit the comment doesn't show up? Is it something else glitchy? Any additional details you can give us and the dev team would be super appreciated.
Thank you sir! Patrick
Here's the thread:
https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/how-to-get-better-at-technical-a…
Immediately after making my first comment (which isn't shown) I made my second comment which is shown in the above thread. If you look at page 6 of the comments on my profile, you'll see the first comment I made, which is for some reason in my history, but not in the thread.
I do remember after posting that first comment that didn't appear, it was on mobile, and I received a really weird message, don't remember what it was anymore. Maybe it was because I mentioned a competitor to WSO? Let me know if there's anything else you'd need to know.
In regards to the mobile issues I have, it's usually when I make a comment I'll receive some error messages or failed to post messages but it almost always does post - however I saw today there was a new update in the app so it maybe all these weird error messages have been fixed at this point.
Oh, and one other thing (can't edit my previous comment) but my post history shows that comment which had never posted received an SB, lol
I had the issue yesterday and the day before on my work laptop using Chrome. Didn't have the same issue on my private laptop or phone both using Chrome. Testing now on my work laptop...
Edit: No error message appeared :)
@wallstreetoasis
fix the authoring option bug too? been happening a while but is fine on laptop. similarly typed out hella shit and it doesn’t go through.
“cannot use this authoring option” for anything even if i change them in settings to something like intern. also, if you’re reading this feel free to gimme my 3 convert to anonymous allowances back I’m paranoid about certain info I’ve typed. not end of world tho. :’)
This is because your ratio is way too low of SB/total votes (below 0.7)
Quit talking shit and getting MS and you won't have that problem
Wow fuck you going anonymous to spite me you asshole?
Joking, but the shit talking happens in off-topic and I don't think off topic MS should really flow over to other forums for potential value add. Awkward conundrum there for trivial topics to affect valuable topics WallStreetOasis.com
maybe make it possible for super controversial comments to be "under the label as satire or opinion" by poster that would prevent the onslaught of MS that prevents people going anon with a SB requirement of 100,500, etc. to label. Don't really think this second idea is great but removing impact of off-topic MS would make some sense. I don't post in ranking threads, etc. either but those within the IB/PE for ranking at least have some value =/ me talking about racism and people down voting to oblivion because it is sensitive but ultimately 0 value on this site.
obviously site is great as is and not really needed to make a change for a specific / such a minority of people. could be less of a problem for people like me to make another account than it is you change the system. but it's an iterative process and maybe something for you to continue thinking about.
@WallStreetOasis.com My previous thread from May 14 was having the same problems (new comments not bumping, showing the wrong dates, etc). I messaged you guys early this morning giving you a heads up about this, but it seems that a few hours later my entire thread (56 comments, 13 bananas) was completely removed. I dont know if this is a glitch or if im being penalized for breaking guidelines. If its the latter, please inform me so I don’t inadvertently continue to break the guidelines. Thank you, I know you guys are hard at work.
Btw, my SB/Total Votes ratio is .85
yeah, this thread had several violations - PMd you.
slightly unrelated but, I've been unable to edit my old posts (shows "protected from editing")
WallStreetOasis.com please advise
This is to prevent users from going back to previous threads they want removed and going 1 by 1 over 10s or 100s of threads and overwriting "DELEEEEEEEETE" across 30 threads at once and making a mess of the forums (it happened a lot before we implemented that) since that update bumps them.
The support team is happy to make any/all of your threads anonymous and/or remove specific parts, just reach out to them and you can give them specifics of what you'd like taken down or edited.
Thanks, Patrick
nah man, just wanted to edit some content and region filter (the bot got it wrong) - who should I talk to to sort this out?
Do you know what's the difference between the old comments I am able to edit compared to the old ones I can't edit? I can't seem to find a pattern.
Also, I've noticed that going back and editing old comments or changing the authoring option doesn't actually bump the thread (which IMO is a good thing)
