Ok let's throw this scenario out there, let's say that someone was working in college as an intern at Morgan Stanley in Baltimore; they then eventually received an offer. Would an offer most likely come from Baltimore or New York, and could they apply to work in New York instead? So let's say they end up working in Baltimore for Morgan Stanley how long would it take to transfer over to a position in New York and if you excel does it happen often? I know this a pretty large scenario but I am looking at the possibility of interning/co-oping at the Morgan Stanley in Baltimore, and I was wondering for my future career if I end up as an analyst would I ever be able to get to New York. Thanks so much for the help.

Hey guys,
I have an internship at MS with a financial advisors team. What is the difference between this and PWM in NYC? No one flew me anywhere for the interview, instead I got selected here, and start soon. Is this the same value as PWM in NYC? Also there's a secondary Wealth Management internship mentioned on the MS website. So what is the difference between PWM at MS NYC, WM at MS NYC, and WM at MS City I'm from? I'm only in my freshman year, so don't know much. Thanks!

It has recently been announced that Morgan Stanley will, once again, defer additional compensation this bonus season.

"Morgan Stanley is deferring 100 percent of the bonuses for high-earning employees, according to three sources familiar with the situation. The deferral applies to all employees, except for financial advisers, who make more than $350,000 annually and whose bonuses are at least $50,000, one of the sources said. The deferred bonuses will be paid out over a three-year period. Employees who make less than $350,000 annually and whose bonuses total less than $50,000 will receive their cash bonuses in February, the source said."

Perks being cut across the Street are nothing new these days. What do you guys think? Worth it?

So I had to submit the online Morgan Stanley app via there website.

I completed everything, but when I clicked submit, I never got a confirmation that by submission was successful.

I did get an email from Morgan Stanley saying the following:

"Thank you for your interest in Morgan Stanley and for taking the time to
complete our on-line application form. Should there be an opportunity for an interview, we will contact you.

Thank you again for applying to Morgan Stanley.

This is a system-generated email; please do not reply to this message."

So, I don't know what to do. Did it go through our not? I think it may have, but why didn't I see a cofirmation page informing me that my application submission was sucessful?

Please can someone help me... :(

There was recently a job posting for the Morgan Stanley Infrastructure (MSI) ($4B private equity style fund) for a portfolio analyst. Looks like the primary role would be to assist in marketing/fundraising for the fund. Does anyone know any more about MSI or about this type of position?

The fund looks really badass. They invest in everything from natural gas pipelines to parking meters in Chicago.

I know several people applied (600+), and i realize asking on WSO is a shot in the dark, but has anyone heard back?

So my uncle got me in contact with a good friend of his who is an MD at MS in the M&A division regarding a summer internship. He offered to give me a call this week for an information interview and also asked me to come visit over winter break. I guess my question is, if I make a good impression on this guy, can I bypass the HR selection process entierly? What kind of pull do MD's have? How should I be preparing for the interview? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Fellow Monkeys,

Morgan Stanley has been taking quite a beating in this forum, as well as many others. Revenues are down, its compensation, already lacking, is also down, and everyone seems to be pretty downbeat on them.

What is your opinion on Morgan Stanley? Still the #2 IBD? Overtaken by JPM? How does it compare to Goldman? And, above all, is it still a desriable place to work for, especially given its future outlook?

[quote]Since the financial crisis, Morgan Stanley has been struggling to squeeze more money out of its sales and trading business, which has suffered as the bank has pulled back on taking risk.

On Monday, the bank unexpectedly announced a shake-up in its senior management in an attempt to increase the profitability of that business. One of Wall Street’s most prominent deal makers, Paul J. Taubman, will leave the company, while another executive, Colm Kelleher, will become the sole head of sales and trading.

Mr. Kelleher’s power within the bank will be rivaled only by Greg Fleming, who oversees the wealth and asset management units, and James Gorman, the chief executive.

From what I can gather, MS Chicago:

- Has a generalist program for analysts
- Smaller office (how small, exactly?)
- Mainly focuses on industrials and consumer retail

Any information on culture/hours/exit opps?

Hi, young monkey here who is in talks with MS LDN/FRA

I was wondering if anyone knows which MS IBD groups are considered best in London.

How is it divided anyway?

1)Products: M&A, CapMarkets, Securitized Products...

2)Industries: TMT, Transportation, RE, HC...

3)Countries: Nordics, CEE...

Am I wrong here?

I dont really understand in which group can an analyst in London end up. Are there so many groups, or is M&A integrated in other groups? Or can you do the pure M&A, regardless of the industry/country etc.? I dont understand what deals would be that group getting, confused here :\

Many thanks guys!

I was looking at MS's website, and I noticed they are accepting applications for their Bridging the Gap program for the summer of 2013. However, it says you have to email them to apply.

This might be a stupid question, but will they send me an application once I email them expressing interest in the program?

Also, how should I structure my email?

Thanks for your help.

I saw this on Dealbreaker, and I've been following it for a while now. Morgan Stanley completed their acquisition of MSSB from Citi after long talks of a deal. Perella Weinberg Partners LP was hired to provide the independent fixed value of Citi's stake in MSSB, and they came up with $13.5 billion, which was far below what Citigroup had thought they could get.

The arrows are a bit superfluous, but take a look at these net revenues from 2007- Aug2012. I think after this acquisition, it's going to get a lot worse for S&T and IBD within the next few years. Is Morgan Stanley the new Merrill Lynch?

Wall St. Suicide: Comment on society

Recently, a man committed suicide and it appears the primary reason is that he lost a significant amount of wealth (maybe everything?) during the financial crisis, at least according to the article. This is disturbing that he would feel that was necessary.

The comments posted by people celebrating his death because he worked on Wall Street is disturbing beyond belief. If you aren't working here yet, this is what you have to look forward to.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/19/charles-h...

Thoughts?

EDIT: I thought I would provide you with some of the comments on his suicide:

"I hope it hurt."

"Good riddance!"

"The rich call the poor people losers. That's why they commit suicide when they lose their money."

Is Morgan Stanley ‘Junk’?

inews's picture

(Senior Baboon, 196

 on 6/23/12 at 7:02am

Morgan Stanley escaped the downgrade but the market’s opinion doesn’t seem to have changed much.

The bond markets are treating Morgan Stanley like a junk-rated company, and the investment bank's higher borrowing costs could already be putting it at a disadvantage even before an expected ratings downgrade this month.

Should Morgan Stanley's senior unsecured debt be "junk" rated in your opinion?

Interesting facts:
1. Morgan Stanley’s unsecured bonds are trading at yields and spreads that indicate the credit rating should be Ba1 or lower (currently Baa1)
2. Bank of America’s credit rating was downgraded but the bonds (in general) are yielding less then Morgan Stanley’s

Is the market overrating Morgan Stanley? If so, why?
