The demise and now rise of UBS?
So I just read that UBS is trying to revive its once notorious public finance division by bringing some top dogs from JPM and WF. Is this UBS trying to become more competitive all while they've been shrinking their IB division? Doesn't make much sense. Maybe I should look at some earnings calls....
UBS Job Title
Not sure if this or the IB forum is the appropriate place to ask - mods let me know if I'm off topic. Got an offer for a risk management position supporting the repo and structured financing desks in NYC . Position title is "authorized officer". Is this is equivalent of associate? It seems like the...
Navigating UBS Risk Management Offer
Got an offer from UBS, upward move but previous role was in capital markets at Mitsubishi UFJ, got laid off and applied like hell. Originally they said they were considering more experienced candidates but I guess their first choice traded away. My title would be "Authorized Officer", but the Job...
Hedging Your Bonus
I had to stop and think about this one for a few minutes. Eric Dash wrote this piece for Dealbook outlining how partners at Goldman Sachs (among other banks) have been hedging the non-cash portions of their bonuses since 2007. SEC Under Investigation in Goldman Sachs Case
The SEC is under investigation by their own Inspector General, H. David Kotz, to determine whether the timing of the filing of the fraud case against Goldman Sachs , it's subsequent announcement, and/or the case's recent settlement were in any way motivated politically or by agency leaks to the New...
Morality on Wall Street
Is there a place for morality on Wall Street any more? Niall Ferguson doesn't think so , at least since Siegmund Warburg died in 1982. Ferguson believes that regulation won't clean up the Street but that bankers need to be taught morals. For those who don't know, Siegmund Warburg founded investment...
Wall Street Hiring Is Ramping Up
Are the good times returning to the Street? It might be too early to celebrate, but at least hiring is picking up in a big way. Almost 7,000 banking jobs were added in New York alone from February through May, and candidates are now facing multiple offers - something we haven't seen in significant...
