Simply put, as a company gets more reviews, the confidence of a "true score" increases so it is pulled closer to its simple average and away from the average of the entire dataset.

Unclear as I only reached the first stage, which was a programming test. However I am fairly sure it will have been a normal process with a series of interviews after the test.

The programming question wasn't super difficult to be honest.

Interview
Initial 1 on 1 phone call with team leader (Researcher), followed by a video call with the team lead and a Quantitative developer. All calls were mainly talking about previous experience, and resembled a behavioral interview rather than a technical. Last stage was a technical assessment that I could take as much time to complete. Mathematical concepts and programming skills were tested. The interviewers were great and friendly, and it seemed like they wanted to get a holistic read on the candidate before passing them onto the technical stage.
Interview Questions
Performing linear algebra (Gaussian functions) to solve a real life problem, and then programming that from scratch onto python (no external libraries allowed)

1 on 1 Interview
Interview
Interviewed at their office in London. The interview process involved provided pseudo code and brainteasers with existing quants. They were quick to respond and provide feedback.
Interview Questions
Signed an NDA on arrival. This was the first round interview which involved a 30 minute test followed by two interviews (each with quants from the existing team). The interviews with the quants were focused primarily on brainteasers and coding exercises at the level one can expect from a hedge fund. The interviewees provided little guidance and you were expected to be able to provide a convincing answer mainly independently. The interviewees were very friendly, but expected candidates to have solid foundations in coding algorithms and mathematical problem solving.
