Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I interviewed for a Fall Analyst position in August 2011. As the interview was off-cycle, I'd say the interview process was more lax compared to the Summer Analyst class. I initially cold-called the firm in June 2012 and asked the receptionist for the Head of Recruiting. As the bank is a boutique, recruiting duties were given to an Analyst at the firm. At this point, I left a professional yet brief voicemail explaining my interests in IB, my desire to be a Summer Analyst, and for an opportunity to chat. To my surprise, 15 minutes later, my voicemail was returned and I had a brief chat with the Analyst.

All Summer Analyst spots were filled by June 2012, so I used the phone call as a networking opportunity. Over the course of three months, I exchanged emails with the Analyst and he recommended some reading material. In addition, he put in touch with another Analyst at the firm who had a similar background to me (Non-Target). After two months of email exchanges, I was invited in for a personal Super-Day for a Fall Analyst Position. The Super-Day consisted of being interviewed by the one Analyst and two Associates. The whole Super-Day process took about 2.5 - 3 hours, each interview lasting approximately 30 - 45 minutes. At the end of the interview, I was astonished to have received a Fall Analyst offer.

Cappello Capital is an excellent office and strongly recommended. Although the Fall Internship is unpaid, the opportunities and networking are excellent. I know former Summer Analysts who now work at Barclays, Houlihan Lokey, Eastdil Secured, Wells Fargo Securities, etc. I can also confirm that Summer Analysts / Summer Associates have interviewed for Green Hill and Evercore in the past. For a Fall Analyst position, you are expected to be able to come into the office full-time three days a week. In general, hours were from 8:30 AM - 10 PM. Summer Analysts were expected to work longer hours. Since I was balancing school, there were no all nighters, although this is justified as the internship is unpaid. In addition, two of my former Fall Analysts continued through the Spring and received Full-Time offers from Cappello. The Firm has great people, a laid-back, Santa-Monica feel, and bankers are generally kind to one another. However, at least 3-4 Analysts / Associates have left in the last year, so the culture may have shifted. The firm does a $25 dinner credit, which leads to a lot of camaraderie between Analysts as you have dinner with one another night after night. From the offices I've seen, I've yet to see a better looking office, with one of the best ocean views around at 100 Wilshire. The owner is a big-time art collector and his personal collection is showcased throughout the office. Solid IB internship through and through.
