Founded in 1985, DFJ's core funds have raised $4B, which has been deployed in more than 300 portfolio companies. DFJ invests in three core segments: Consumer applications and services, Enterprise infrastructure and apps, and Disruptive Technologies.
The company has two arms: DFJ Venture and DFJ Growth. DFJ Venture works with companies at seed, early and growth stages. The latter is a later stage investment practice that focuses on private technology companies that address huge market opportunities, and are feasible to scale rapidly to become an industry leader.
Notable investments include AdMob, Baidu, Box (NYSE:BOX), HoTMaiL, Skype (acquired by Microsoft), Solarcity, SpaceX, Tesla Motors (NASDAQ:TSLA), Tumblr, Twitter and Yammer (acquired by Microsoft).
In addition, DFJ has a Global Network for investors and its supported entrepreneurs across different sectors and continents, who share resources and strategies to create greater value. All DFJ Global Network firm members raise capital and manage their investment decisions independently.
DFJ and Stanford University (DFJ + Stanford) have collaborated over the years to support entrepreneurial development and education. There are two programs under this collaboration: The DFJ Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders Series and DFJ Entrepreneurial Leaders Fellowship.
