Interview
A recruiter sent me an email asking if I were interested in interviewing with a portfolio manager covering my sector. I agreed, had a call with the recruiter, then a meeting with the portfolio manager, then took a personality test and IQ test.
Interview Questions
The one-on-one interview with the portfolio manager was somewhat antagonistic to "test" your thinking. They will ask you for activist/suggestivist ideas for long/short pitches but only from the basis of an activist "playbook." Portfolio managers do not have any dedicated coverage, do not track earnings, events, catalysts, or market sentiment levels. Be ready to have a long and short idea ready and to speak through why it could fit within the Elliott investing framework. This can be difficult because clear market sentiment ("replace this management team," "sell this division," etc.) will not always be the best choice based on Elliott portfolio manager thinking (due to a lack of knowledge of current market and sector sentiment).
