How Regional Is Wealth Management?

Recently, I have been looking into wealth management as a career choice and am currently far along in the interview process at a firm on the West Coast. I enjoy my life where I am currently on the West Coast but do plan on moving back to the East Coast eventually to be closer to family and friends. If I were to accept an offer and begin my career in my current location, would it be possible to keep clients assuming an eventual cross country move down the road? Or would it just be a waste of my time? The firm has offices around the country so not sure if that would be a factor at all. Any and all advice is very appreciated!
