What does the path and timeline for asset management look like

I am currently a college freshman and I've decided that I want to pursue asset management but I am unaware of the timeline and advice would be appreciated. There is a lot of information out there for IB but not much for asset management. Is it possible to do AM out of college? What should be done while in college? What internships or programs are desirable? What does entry-level comp look like?
