📢 Seeking advice: Choosing between Strategy& and BCG in a poor developing country

Hey WSO community! I'm currently working in the PE industry and have received offers from both Strategy& and BCG. Here's the catch: I live in a third-world country where salaries and pay scales are quite different from the US.

In my current PE role, I make around $4,500 annually. However, BCG has offered me a total compensation of approximately $30,000 per year, while Strategy& has come in with an impressive $79,000 total compensation annually.

Considering the huge disparity, the salary offered by Strategy& is truly life-changing, especially in a country where the minimum wage is less than $1,000 per year.

I'm torn between the prestige and opportunities at BCG and the financial stability and impact I could make with Strategy&. What do you think? Should I give up the MBB option for more than double the salary at Strategy&?

Looking forward to hearing your insights and experiences. Thanks in advance! #CareerDecisions #MBBvsStrategyand #SalaryImpact

$30,000 / $4,500 = ~7x your salary

$79,000 / $4,500 = ~17.5x your salary

No brainer, pick Strategy&. You can always lateral later on.

If the S& offer is really 2.5x the BCG offer then definitely take it. But, I would be careful to make sure they aren't misleading you / inflating that sticker number by including BS (e.g., estimated value of benefits or theoretical max bonus that no one gets). Only reason I say that is consulting salaries at the non-partner level are usually incredibly standardized across industry and rarely vary more than 5-10% among MBB - T2 strategy firms. So seeing this kind of disparity sets off alarm bells for me. Of course, very well could be the case but I would just caution you to read the fine print on your offer and do your research (ideally try to talk to people at both firms in your region).

Yeah I understand what you’re saying but the way it works is that Strategy& kind of employ you in a different country, where the minimum wage is 20x that of the office you’re based in. BCG employ you in the local country to pay you less (MCK do the same).

This is why there’s is such a big gap between both.
